So, I would feel like I am taking money out of a charity box (even though I understand that is not the case, directly). However, I have seen obviously very poor people haggle in charity shops, and I think that it fine - the charity exists to help people and so people who need help should get it. I would probably just pay for something if a really poor person wanted it but couldn't afford it in a charity shop anyway, though. -Courtney | |||

" true but sainsbury's dont make the profit charity shops make on their items. all charity shop stuff is donated, sainsbury's have to but their items from manufacturers. | |||

Mainly because I have had a lot of customers try haggling, and then bring out more than enough money, the money is going to a cause more than anything, not like most shops where it goes into some rich persons pocket. Also, people don't haggle in primark, why is it OK to haggle in a charity shop? Sorry to sound angry, it's just one of those things that really riles me | |||

Some customers he told me would change price tickets to get the item cheaper, or even shoplift the items. Never occurred to me that people would steep so low!  | |||

I think that charities now are big business (that isn't necessarily wrong) and if you feel its ok to haggle in say Currys it's ok to haggle in Oxfam. I don't understand why it's not ok to haggle in Tesco though. We donated a huge amount of stuff last week and I bought a dress at the same time, the man behind the counter gave me a discount because of the stuff we'd brought in, so they do have discretion. We were in the same shop this week and Mr N showed a top saying "this is your style" .....it was, I'd donated it the week before "I like that approach. I'd happily give discount to people making donations because it's incentive to recycle. | |||
