Cat was attacked tonight by a dog and left for dead by the dogs owner.

I heard a commotion and saw him pulling the dog away where i said.. I hope that wasn't my cat? He said 'No'

I couldn't settle and went to see where i found her 2 doors away in a very bad state. Shes now in the vets with extreme shock and a puncture on her left side. Were unsure she will make the night.

I feel violently sick and have posted a note through the dog owners door to say it was my cat and i was taking her to the vets because he had gone out.

I hope she pulls through. Shes 14.

I've been there with this one. I didn't see the attack but my neighbour with the ex racing greyhound was the one who 'found' mine after 'some dog' attacked her.

This dog is something like a lurcher that is taken out lamping late at night. Thats where they were going. Im disappointed that he said it wasnt my cat when it was.

Im just so glad i went out to look for mine. Had i of left it trusting his answer then she would of been dead by now.

Im expecting the dreaded bad news sometime during the night. I will keep you posted.

Oh no, we have three and I would be in pieces. Two of mine have been through horrific accidents and the vets have got them through ... one with a smashed jaw. I think you should report it too. He needs to have more control of his dog and I would not necessarily trust it, or him, around children.

Unfortunately she is being put to sleep. Her injuries are to much. The dog has broken her chest bones, shes in severe pain and shes got a big infection from the wounds. Lots of other things too.

There dog/s are only there for one reason. They live outside 24/7 in custom built kennels. The dog has done what hes there to do.

I know that doesn't make it right and I'm heart broken. His partner is devastated too. I could report it, have the police round, get his dog put to sleep or whatever which will only lead to further trouble and problems.

I really do not know what to do.

The dog isn't there to kill people's pets and it's the owners responsibility to ensure he doesn't.

I'd report it without a second thought.

If it will attack a cat, what else might it do? The owner needs to be shown he has to control his animals in public. If he can't, he shouldn't be allowed to keep them.

from your comment alone id leave it alone as the animals are natural enemies

That is the easiest choice for me - I hate seeing animals put through too much pain and sometimes the kindest thing to do is stop it.

Report the dog for sure, 'without malice' if you will, but there is a due process which needs to be followed here IMO, it sounds like this may be a dangerous dog.

Report him and dog to the police.

Next time it could be a child not a cat once a dog gets a taste for blood they want more.

This. I reported a neighbour's dog and the police said they'd had a few similar reports but no-one would push to take them to court so their hands (police) were tied and they couldn't do anything.

I made sure it went to court. Didn't want a child to be the next victim.

I have sympathy and understand how it feels, my small dog has been attacked and hospitalised twice while on a lead by dogs let to run free by inconsiderate owners, its not the dogs fault. But if you're going to let your cats out they will also kill things, and you have to be prepared for something like this or possibly to be run over, its a choice and chance you take. Best wishes anyway

Can't believe the audacity of the owner though denying it wasn't your cat, I'm unsure what I'd do in your situation but my knee jerk one would be to report it. If only the dog had been made to wear a muzzle.
