Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

With Poundland given the green light to buy out 99p Stores, prices are going to go up more than current inflation.

Lots of items in the pound shops are cheaper elsewhere (e.g. Tunnocks Teacakes are 81p in Waitrose) so is it the ease of easy addition or a case of the bargain items leading us to just pick up the more expensive things?

You can never go into pound land and pick up one item...you may go in for say cleaning products but you come out after spending £20 on shite because it was only a pound...

Don't have a poundland here, when Wilkinson's have their offers on they work out cheaper. When I do go into one I look round and pick up something that I think is a bargain, we don't have many shops here but when I've looked in places like b&m bargains they are usually cheaper.

To be honest the only thing I tend to buy are things like sets of Tupperware type boxes.

I couldn't survive without wilkos

I'd never even heard of one but where my son lives in the shopping centre there is a b&m, wilkos and poundshop next to each other and my other favourite shop dunhelm

I think people are getting sucked in, some of the things are a smaller size so you are probably not getting your moneys worth anyway. They also had two packs of painkillers for a quid....which were 26p each in a supermarket.

I can count the times I've been in a pound shop on one hand. I only go in when I want craft stuff for children. Last time I went I bought batteries because I didn't want to walk to Wilkinsons. I go to Wilkinsons occasionally for craft stuff now Woolworths has closed. I don't know prices of individual items so I wouldn't know if something was cheaper in Asda than a pound store.

I spend half my life in wilko, they have half an aisle that's half price items this changes every three weeks, at the moment its all the soap powders half price, I can't ever remember the last time I bought any products full price, well I haven't in the four years wilko has been here

Mascara can dry up but otherwise it's safe while it's unused. It's getting bacteria in it from applying it which makes it become unsafe.

Lipstick can go off but usually it just smells bad. It's not unsafe.

The 'use by' dates on cosmetics don't mean a lot.

Well considering I wear make up everyday I replace it when empty which is usually every 3 months and pound land do not stock the products I use anyway

The Poundlands here hardly stock any at all. Some Rimmel, a few nail varnishes and some cheap generic sparkly brands.

I've bought a few nail varnishes in the past but I'm not a fan of Rimmel or cheap sparkly stuff.

To get to Poundland, Poundworld or the 99p shop means going into the city and either paying for expensive parking or the expensive park and ride.

I don't go into the city if I can avoid it. When I do go, I tend to go where I need to and go home. I don't tend to browse much.

We've only recently got Wilko's springing up everywhere. Home and Bargain hasn't made it's way through yet. Retail space is more expensive here so the margins would have to make it worth it.

The smaller sizing is sneaky as the packaging looks the same but contain smaller quantities, specifically made for these shops.

How much of the profit is then used to acquire new sites, keep cashflow going in a busy that relies on turnover etc.?

There are two directly opposite each other, across a street, in Norwich city centre. And they tend to have different stock.

We have lots of Poundlands, Poundstretchers and some 99p Stores. There are lots of other tut shops too. The brand needs to have the capital to open in several areas at once in London to make any sort of impact.

We got a B&M here relatively recently and now have 2.

I'm not sure if we have a Wilko. Not that I can think of right now. We don't have a Home Bargains.

We also don't have a Costco and that's what I miss most.

Home bargains is at lakeside Thurrock. It does really well.

Make up I did ask on the Christian Dior counter if their blusher went out of date and they said no as long as it is not left

open to the air. This 6 months etc stamp on stuff is purely so they are not sued that is used by all manufacturers I would never know how long I had been usIng an item as I use different ones constantly and nail varnish never goes off either
