Edinburgh

I'm Scottish.

I wouldn't describe myself as a British Athiest.

My views on religion do not have any bearing on my nationality.

I think it can be good thing. It shows you can be both British and Muslim, which a lot of people forget.

If people want to identify by religion, let them.

Some would argue that the nationality is a limit itself. Why are you okay with segregation by country but not religion?

Greek Orthodox is an actual religion (or group of churches). It's different from the other examples.

For some people their religion or culture is as strong an identity as their nationality. Why shouldn't they?

I am a British Christian. That's how I identify. My Christian beliefs are a far larger part of my personality than my Britishness.

Well, you said "people should be known as their nationality". That doesn't promote integration.

Firstly OP is rabble rousing and not genuinely seeking information. Muslims call themselves Muslims or British. However to show they are patriotic and that they are born in Britain or British orientated the term British Muslim is used. Because as OP knows all Muslims are alike?

1) At the moment Islam is at risk of being decried as a very anti western religon, why can't people describing themselves as British Muslim be showing a positive western/British alignment.

2) It might be a nomenclature assigned by others press, media, race haters.

3) It might be ascribed by people who are looking for a particular group for one reason or another.

No comment, merely observation and suggestion.

I don't think it has anything to do with a clique.

The only pattern forming is that of the OP's choice of topics and the reasons for posting.

Some do. People classify themselves lots of different ways.

Perhaps they are including the 'British' part to try to separate themselves from certain radical groups. Just saying 'muslim' can give some other people a certain opinion. They may want to avoid that.

British Muslim sounds better as there is still a lot of stigma surrounding eastern mumslims due to being associated with terrorism, wife beating etc.

By saying British Muslim they are saying they are of British Nationality and Muslim religion.

So have likely not been involved with the extremist Eastern Muslims which give the religion a bad name.

Playing the 'clique are bullies' card is pretty lame when you get called out for trolling. Posting a thread when it seems you're only interested in a bun fight becomes obvious when you ignore genuine responses and trip yourself up on what you've posted for everyone to read.

No-one will get you 'another' time out other than yourself. You're responsible for your own posts. As are we all.
