'Real' is not an expression I'd use for either sex *checks profile* but if I did I'd mean doesn't over groom shave their chest, spend too much time in front of a mirror etc

in the suffolk countryside

someone i dont have to give instructions,or constant assurance, in order to maintain his world, and, someone that doesn't say 'i don't mind' when asked any question..

and doesnt sulk for three days straight and get mad when i laugh at that kind of behaviour

a sense of self awareness and for me its necessary for him to have a backbone..otherwise im likely to steamroller all over him..and on a constant basis that bores me..

I think in this context it means "old school". Ie: confident, masculine, assertive, bread-winner, whatever other 1950s stereotype you can think of...

The opposite to a metrosexual male. Dosent go gym and lifts weights, does a proper manual labour job or work. Dosent shave of pamper themselves like a woman just does the nessecary so they don't stink and look presentable

There is no such thing as a 'real man' and the quicker women reliase this they may find a guy who will be what they wanted rather than seeking something that doesn't exist

I suppose my real answer is I dont feel I need to prove my masculinity, I dont follow what many 'real' men follow..I rarely hang out with men either, so those boys nights out arent my thing..

I dont have much bravado either and physically I suppose I dont have the care to change my body shape to the ideal.I'd rather not be looked at to be some sort of protector for my feminine partner, I can vocally take charge of a situation without it being aggressive.

I fucking hate suits/ties too.

I like the type of woman thats like me in ways, androgynous essentially in personality.

"There is no such thing as a 'real man' and the quicker women reliase this they may find a guy who will be what they wanted rather than seeking something that doesn't exist "

I think, in the 21st century, this is about the size of it. Say your definition of a real man is confidence...men who aren't confident aren't real? They might be lovely! Different strokes for different folks isnit. So work out what you want in a man and ask for that instead e.g. "i'm looking for a confident man"

Real Men? I'm guessing perceptions will vary lol...

For me it's a guy who;

* Gives a straight answer to straight question...

* Isn't gutless or cowardly...

* Doesn't lie himself out of a difficult situation...

* Knows when to apologise...

* Prides himself with some integrity...

That's hillarious!!! All you men that don't participate in manual labour but work your ass off in other ways - you aren't real men. Even if you kick ass in the gym to escape from your 'non manual labour' jobs nah...doesn't count!

I haven't read the whole thread so I'm sorry if I missed anything/ misunderstood.

SW London

We did get a message a few days ago asking if I wanted to be tucked by a real man. First, I presumed he was talking to me, the Mrs, once that was established, I asked him what the hell was he thinking as my partner is a real man, how dare he? So, he is a man's man, on and off works on a building site, does all the handyman jobs around the house, and generally cares for everyone and everything, and is the most sensitive man I know. I, on the other hand have my own career and do my own thing too. I handle the money and the legal things as I can do the paperwork etc. I think emotionally I am much harder. I think we click because we are both real, but don't fit all of the stereotypes, and, oh yes, what she said about the sexual satisfaction .... don't need no other 'real man' for that.

My ex does quite a manly job he's a fireman, he's also the most metrosexual guy you'd ever meet yet he'd also ride motorX bikes, fix cars, but also preened himself to perfection, waxed his underarms and had his pubes lazered off, had 100's of moisturisers and plucked stray eyebrows, dressed well and spent a lot of time in the gym because his job involved being physically fit and strong.

On paper with his job and all he may be considered a 'real man' but up until the last couple of years he's been a shit father to our child, he's still a prick to me and can't be civil for the benefit of our child so I wouldn't class him as a real man! A real man could seperate his feelings towards me and see the bigger picture.
