Samsung VS iPhone

Samsung in the USA are offering iphone users a chance to try the S6 for a month for $1. It comes with data, calls, text, etc.

If you don't like it, you can send it back in the prepaid box for nowt. If you like it, you're entered into a contract with a network.

Would you get a trial phone?

Samsung over the iPhone any day!I have the s5 an it's awesome had a Samsung for the last few years started with an s3 then s4 now s5, iPhone seems to be more of a statement than practical item but meh I'm anti apple anyway so perhaps a bit bias

Yeah i would get one too. Wasn't sure whether to get another samsung after my iPhone broke, ended up getting another iPhone instead.

Prefer IPhone personally as I'm just used to it as had one so long, but there are several areas where I prefer Samsung. Expandable memory and removable battery for example, tho I have solved the battery thing with IPhone

Ah unfortunately Samsung have done away with the expandable memory (just as google add full native support in Android M) and the changeable battery has gone in the latest top range phones as well. Samaung have listened to the journos and not their customers, tha latter prefer the interchangeable batteries and will accept a plastic type back to have, where as the journos have been clammering for an a iPhone appearance on the premium phones. Grrr, most of us bury our phones in cases so who cares about a plastic back, what counts the the stuff int the device.

Oh I should add, I am not sure what I would do if the option to play with a S6 or opt for an iPhone. However the S6 is still a little less restrictve than Apple's walled garden, though the iPhone 6 plus is still a nice enough device.

I have my iPhone in an Ibatzz case which has a Samsung battery in it which is removable so I have three batteries and a cheap separate charger for them problem Solved you can get them with expandable memory too but they are a fortune

I was worried about this too but took the risk and it's fine. I have loads of pictures on my phone but to be honest most of my music is on drop box.

You get 120GB data with the S6 on top of what's in the phone itself. If you ever ever ever use that up then it's not a phone you want, it's a PC.

One thing I'd say to anyone when you think of upgrading is ring up and haggle tell them your thinking of leaving.

I got told 3 no longer did there unlimited plan but when I rang to cancel they gave me unlimited everything and a free s6 for 42 a month

Note 4 came out last September and is still a great phone (might get one when I get to upgrade time). The Note 5 has just been announced, but there are no plans at the moment to release in in Europe or the UK (though Samsung UK are apparently trying to get that changed, after the whiplash they got on social media when the phone was announced).

Some of the specs of the Note 5 are an improvement on the Note 4 but some are not. They have gone with a sealed unit, whcih looks goot, but means the battery cannt be changed. They have also dumped the expandable memmory and more imprtantly set the max internal memory at 64 GB (I'm already using 96 GB on my note 3). So its quick but too restrictive for me.

Comment has been made re the excellent photos taken on mobile phones, which is true and never fails to surprise me. Being a camera collector for many years and reader of various mags re cameras and lenses I am fully aware of the lengths manufacturers of both went to get the best possible performance, and reported on so avidly by the mag's testers. Then come along cameras with puny looking lenses, probably plastic behind a plastic covering, and hey presto, photos a Leica would be proud of.
