Mine got awful results in mocks at the end of year 10, but he was only going to school three days a week then. Had a major bollocking meeting with me, the head of year and the sports club he is now signed for and told him to get on it .... he had A *s As and Bs now, so sometimes they need a reality check and need to learn how to solve it. The best learners are those who cope with adversity too ....

This thread has got me all tingly!! I love hearing how they've all done no matter what the results. I keep telling mine you get out what you put in!!!

My eldest is 14 next week so just about to start year 10 & the youngest in his year. I feel nervous but excited for him at the same time - as long as he doesn't need help with his homework!!!

A friend of mine is on call in the mental health ITU unit.

GCSE results day is the worst in the year for teenage overdoses.

If you have a friend or family member who doesn't do so well, please make sure they get any help that they might need. These kids think that GCSE results are everything. But in reality nobody even cares about them once you get into the next stage of your education.

As I work in the education business of your son and daughter don't get the marks they'd hoped for or needs as part of their conditional offer it isn't the end of the world. Speak to the admissions department of the university ASAP as they are often willing to discuss how to make sure you can still attend the university

I was just thinking this too. If your kids don't the results they were expecting, you must make sure they know it's not the end of the world. Far from it.

In my day they did. I got unconditional offers because of my O level results, in the days before AS levels. But saw my oldest who got his A level results last week go from the lowest trough to the highest peak - results not what he wanted .... but got into his sports psychology degree anyway ... off travelling for a year - and who knows if he will be back.

I know today is GCSE day but thought I'd mention it as people here might have kids getting ready for uni. The same applies to colleges.

I'm very proud of my daughter. She lost her dad just when she was meant to start her gsces. She had to move in with me, move schools and suffered terrible depression after all of that.

She made the difficult choice with my backing to repeat a year. She suffered quite a lot of ridicule for it but she got there and today got b's and C's... And has got her results foe college..

So so proud x
