I love John le Carré. My partner's started watching the TV series so I've finally someone to talk about the Circus with.

I also liked Iain Banks (not his SciFi stuff though, sadly).

I am pilgrim - Terry Hayes. Best book read in ages but the only one he has written.

I grew up devouring Tolkien, before it became fashionable (35 odd years ago) and moved onto Gerald Durrell, James Herriot and Douglas Reaman and Douglas Adams, this all before I left school.

These are still my favourite books and I dip into them now and again and it's like visiting old friends.

Mrs T hops about many authors and subjects.

Currently I'm reading the Jack Reacher novels. I've read four of them, figured the plots on all of them by about half way. I'm giving up if the fifth one is as transparent.

Through my late teens and to my 30's, it was Ed McBain, with his 57th Precinct detective and crime novels.

He moved into other crime genres, all winning awards galore. Sadly he passed away a few years ago.

I read The Karla trilogy all in about two weeks (which is very fast reading for me) just because I was so eager to see the stories unfold.

'still think that Little Drummer Girl is the best of his I've read though. .
