Most gaming shops sell second hand consoles. Try eBay too, though the risk of them not working from there is higher, you usually get a guarantee from the shops.

You sometimes see them on car boot sales.

I spends hundreds on eBay collecting retro consoles, even stuff from1985 worked perfectly.

If you're not looking to collect seriously, like I was. Then buy the games cartridge only as the box will send the price through the roof.

If the console doesn't work you'll be covered by eBay anyway

you can play some on line, I suspect you prefer the original thing but when I got my sega to play streets of rage, it was so incredibly slow it was painful. Of course I was very naive to overlook this but even so.

Maybe the poor processing will add to the nostalgia for you!

you can also play the old retro games via your pc with an emulator as the games are found in roms

so is an alternative way to do it

So tempted to get the new ZX Spectrum Vega preloaded with over 1,000 classic spectrum games! General release (for those that didn't crowdfund or advance order) is next week I think!

I also saw a joystick/console pad device in Argos that just plugs straight into your television. It comes pre loaded with tons of old retro console games like shinobi, R-Type, golden axe, etc.

if you have a computer, you can probably get an emulator for it and roms. I used to play master system games on my laptop, mega drive, gameboy, atari, and even some commodore games when bored. just type the console you want into any search engine with emulator and there's thousands of results usually, most are free

Cartridges have a better work rate than CDs. Check the pins and if it doesn't work don't blow on it as that over time damages the pins with moisture from your breath. Best method is Windolene on a cotton bud to remove dust and dirt. Let it completely dry before using of course.
