That's a shame.

I do a lot of TA reviews myself and I'm very fair and rarely complain. I see many decent reviews.

I find most in the pub trade can't take honest criticism and become insulting.

Trip Advisor.

Set up with good intentions but which has been hijacked numerous times by "so called experts" who think they are God's Gift for Hotels and can bully their way via the site to get their own way!.

I work in the Hotel industry and never cease to be amazed at the people who ring up and say, "you'd better give us a great room or we will report you on TA!" OR the Best was a couple who rang in to reserve a room, but on being told the hotel was fully booked on their required date, responded with, "get us a room or we will report you to T.A. and tell the world about you discriminating us!"

We didn't back down, they did report us but git nowhere!

All I will say is that if I receive bad service I take it up with the provider, same goes for good service.

I always give fair and honest reviews on TA, giving where credit is due and saying how it is, when I review bad service. I have noticed though, some reviewers appear to be the staff themselves, giving the establishment an excellent review, or people that are disgruntled, giving an appalling review. I've even seen people reviewing disgruntled customers too!

As someone who reads the reviews I always take Tripadvisor reviews with a pinch of salt.

The funniest are ones which say "there is no way this hotel is X star." Like there are so many people out there who know how hotels get their stars awarded to them!

Good point . On most things in life , I prefer to make my own judgement , not rely on the opinions of others .

I'm really happy for you. Well done. I just might try to be a number 1 contributor on Trip Advisor. It sounds a remarkable place.

How much of their revenue do they share with you ?

I am very selective about what I review on TA.

I will not review anything that has lots of reviews (if it has all been said before, no need for me to repeat it).

I usually only review places that have impressed me for being better or for being worse than I expected.

You admit your food was cheap. You allude to it being poor quality or at best 'cheap and cheerful' - maybe that's why the reviews you got were bad? Or maybe the contempt you appear to have for your customers was the issue?

Most people can and do diffentiatw between pubs doing weatherspoons pint and a burger type meals and those offering decent food.

Its actually quite hilarious what they've done recently. I've been a TA reviewer for years - just adding reviews for my comfort, and to let people know what place is a good place to stop, and what place is a fleapit. Then they added points, badges and rankings, and expect us to want to add more and more reviews to get these badges (and to get them advertising revenue).

I travel a lot, for work and leisure, so I'm going to review places whatever, but don't try and make me think that points = prizes when the prize is a different coloured badge. Where's my free trip? Where's my restaurant voucher? TA have gone down in my estimation considerably.
