Cultural differences US/Europe...

Watched a show on Discovery that almost perfectly sums up the differences between America and Europe.

It's regarding an incident where over 5000 blackbirds fell out of the sky and died in a town in the US.

When interviewed a resident of the town said "we were worried it was a chemical or biological terrorist attack".

At the same time the same thing happened in a town in Italy, over 5000 collared doves fell from the sky. When interviewed a resident of the town said

"I scooped them up with that bucket and put them in the bin".

Had to chuckle at the overreaction by the Americans and the lack of fucks given by the Italians.

Americans are a incredibly credulous bunch, if I can make such a sweeping generalisation

It's a 300 year old highly religious country, with a violent beginning, a very violent civil war and just the worse media in the world!

Add to the fact there stuck out in the ocean completely isolated and its no real surprise

But it's slowly changing

I don't really think of America as one country, but more a series of regions, each different to the rest in many ways. And there are probably the same proportion of decent sorts to arseholes as any other part of the world

Most definitely.

I do love the deep south. Aside from the bible bashing side of things.

Generally, I kinda like them as a people, in their own habitat. As has been said though, there is probably proportionately as many whacos there as there are here.. The only difference being their right to bear arms!!

However, the thing that bugs me the most is the fact that they call aluminium aluminium, I can't get over that!!

I think America's media is the main reason Americans react in such a way.

They write things like they sound

Color aluminium...

Why a road is a highway and yet a railway is a railroad is beyond me though

I've just experienced the walking down the corridor on the same side phenomenon!!! Don't get me wrong, I used to live there, I know all about the various foibles. It's fun playing with them!!

Brighton - even Hove!

I met an American once who was totally convinced that everything was created. He said Darwinism and evolution was the work of the devil. He was totally convinced. I made a joke later about twinkies being inedible and once you had a taste, you could throw them away and he agreed you had to be there, I guess.

Taken from Google......

In October 2013, the incarceration rate of the United States of America was the highest in the world, at 716 per 100,000 of the national population.

While the United States represents about 4.4 percent of the world's population, it houses around 22 percent of the world's prisoners.....

The Land of the Free eh!.....

I hate saying this but... technically it was aluminum first. The spelling is closer to the old English than modern English.

There is no excuse for the way they pronounce nuclear or calling the bit of road you drive on the pavement.

OP, why did the birds fall from the sky?

I saw a graph over the weekend (via Runnymede) that showed just how skewed that figure is to black men.

After 9/11 the tourist trade to Hawaii dropped significantly as Americans took the advice not to travel overseas to literally

Americans? Europeans? British? French?...

WHO are these people and WHAT are they like? Does anybody know them all?;-)

I cannot see how it is possible to make any sweeping statement (even if it is not a negative statement) about any nationality or group - no two people are the same never mind an entire community.

I work with the crazy fucks and two weeks working in Dallas recently confirmed there is something of the night about that country.

21 to buy a drink buy 14 to (legally) purchase and own a gun.

At a major event at the cowboys stadium it struck me that it was mainly black people serving white people.

The Bush family is akin to Royalty.

68% of the population of Texas have never crossed the state line.

And my hotel hosted the state final of the Mary Kay cosmetics convention (avon calling in the UK) and it was a sight to behold over 300 middle aged ladies competing in a sales completion to win a pink Cadillac and not one of them was up for FMF fun............crazy!!
