I'm from Glasgow (the city where the sun very rarely shines). I'm looking to escape for a few days down south, mid September where it will hopefully still be warm ..ish. I was hoping some of you lovely fabbers from those areas could recommend??

I'm looking for suggestions of places to go (via train travel) where it won't cost a fortune, I'll be able to go on some nice walks, maybe a beach and some scenery. Zurich. NOT London.

Dorset, Bournemouth, Poole, Swanage areas are gorgeous and September does tend to be quite mild in comparison to Glasgow. SouthWest trains direct from London Waterloo (cheap tickets also available on megatrain)Some amazing beaches and walks. Hope this helps.

You're spoilt for choice down this way.

from the southdowns in sussex to the jurassic coast of dorset and beyond.

Kimmeridge bay is nice and there's always the new forest.

Devon is fab but it's a looooong way for a few days. Granny's suggestion of Seahouses is a goodun. Lovely little place with lots of beach, seaside town, campsite if you want to go on the cheap (but probably better with a car for convenience). Not sure you're guaranteed good weather wherever you go but I've also gone up the way, there are some beautiful places up the west coast.

How long do you want to travel?

Dorset, Devon and Cornwall are glorious but they're the best part of a day's travel for me by car, from Glasgow it'll be a loooooong journey!

Northumberland is spectacular as Granny said. Alnmouth is a beautiful seaside town with lots of stunning countryside near.

Cumbria has not only coast but lakes and mountains too.

North Yorkshire is beautiful. The dales around Settle (lots of trains) are lovely. And the Yorkshire Coast is cracking too.

I went to NYC alone. I probably wouldn't go to Turkey alone purely cause my impression of the men there is less than complimentary (I realise this is a sweeping generalisation and it may well be heresay) but it wouldn't stop me going somewhere else alone to lie on a beach.

Get a cheap flight to Faro and enjoy the sunny Algarve. I'd recommend Vilamoura or the more eastern cities along the coast (the west tends to be quite windy). It's affordable, has beautiful beaches and delicious food.
