Do we have any people on here, who would, being completely honest, describe their outlook on life as being a happy and enjoyable one, someone who's heart radiates with positive energy, who will take a shot at anything, enjoy it, and if it doesn't work out well, that's fine, you can always take a shot at something else and enjoy that too!

If so, have you always felt this way about life (ie were you a happy child?) and why is it that you think you're as happy as you are? What advice would you offer to those who aren't?

To be honest I wouldn't welcome advice from someone who totally matches that description,,,

It's not that I feel their advice would not be worth hearing or indeed following...

It's just I've found that in some cases people whose persona operates constantly at any extreme of behavioural pattern eventually crash and burn ......

I'm naturally optimistic. Certainly not happy all the time but I overcome disappointment, sadness and anger quickly. I generally smile my way through life but enjoy a good cry or blowing my top from time to time to clear the tubes. On the whole it enabler to be laid back, see the humour and fun in life, even when faced with adversity. I recognise my flaws, accept them and change the ones I can no longer live with. So yeah I'm pretty contented and happy most of the time

I think its as unnatural to be happy all the time as it is to be miserable.

There can sometimes be an air of mania around people like that, which is a bit "car crash tv".

Better to be a bit rollercoaster with ups and downs to my mind x

I am very go lucky and would like to think that I am happy. I think that there are probably a couple of reasons why I have adopted this attitude.

First my son is chronically ill. As a dialysis patient I see him endure no end of treatments, tests, heartbreak (rejected transplant 4 years ago) and all sorts of associated illness and ailments as a result of no kidney function/long term dialysis. He is a lovely young man who I am very proud of. I could sit there and lament his future but that then has an impact on his now and now is important. Now is the only thing that matters to us. For us now is seizing life and all its opportunities and making the most of them. We are having great fun along the way.

The other reason is my work. I encounter all sorts of people who have the most tragic/ desperate stories to tell. Poor people living in squalid accommodation with no aspirations other than to survive the next week. People with no support networks, no family, no money, no hope.

How can I be miserable or unhappy? I am blessed. I have a good life. I have hope and I have opportunities. It's not always been that way and I have had to learn not to worry or complain about the things I can't control which affect my life. You only have one life and trust me it could be so much worse. I love my life. I love being spontaneous and I love being happy. I don't worry about money, about possessions or about what will happen next week. What will be will be.

There's a quote from Shawshank Redemption which I think sums it up. "Get busy living or get busy dying!"

My life isn't planned and i go with the flow, and i am happier for it, i change easily and am flexible about things. Have always been this way but more aware of having to be like this because i've got 4 kids and you have to be flexible on just about everything when you have them. There's been many times i haven't been able to do what i want because someone else needed my time and my life, and i sometimes resented that but, now i have time to myself more i do appreciate how how much effort i put in and i'm seeing the rewards from that.

I'm cynical too. Been friends with, or in relationships with, people who take the piss or hurt me. But i know better how to deal with them and i know better how i don't need those people in my life.

When my daughter died a lot of things that bothered me didn't matter any more either, this fundamentally changed my thought process to realise so many things in life didn't matter.

I also think i've got a good balance of being selfish and unselfish that makes me happy.

I wasn't always happy, especially as a child. We were brought up in poverty, my dad was an abusive alcoholic, and when i cut ties with my parents i felt happier as well. It forced me to be more social when i was younger because i wanted to get out of the house and away from my parents but now i'm more introverted and enjoy either ways of being. The only thing that used to bother me and affect my happiness was feeling unwanted off my parents but i learned that it was ok, sometimes things are hard for parents and they just can't cope with life.

So i'd say empathy as well as realising you can lose anything you 'have' at any given moment is my outlook on life. You don't actually have anything, everything is free even if it thinks it isn't but idk how to word that. Oh, and nobody elses opinion matters, even if they care for you you can listen to them if it helps you or ignore if it doesn't. Also, find others like you then you feel like there's a place for you in this world.

I'm cynical, I've been around the block, I've witnessed truly disgusting, shocking and terrible obscenities personal, individual and societal - and yet I remain optimistic.

I'm very thankful for my life, which is a lot better now than when I started out.

I often get asked how I can be so happy all the time.

It takes effort. Lol.

I don't see why, if I'm upset or unhappy, that I should pass that feeling on to others.but that's just me. Everyone has their own problems without me adding to them with mine but if I see someone down or upset, I make it my mission to help them. I always have a positive outlook on life and try my best to live by that.

Ive always believed that if you hug someone, I mean really hug someone, who needs it and not let go until they do, it will make a difference. Even if only a small one.

little house on the praire

It's taken 35 years of hard work to get where I am, the well karen is very happy and optimistic and only in the last six months has taken on new ventures ( tandem sky dive next). This is someone who couldn't catch a bus on her own or train as she was to scared or go to new places alone, only tiny things to some people but huge achievements for me.

The Ill karen, sell I'm still working on her.

Brighton - even Hove!

I'm not an extreme person, have slight ups and downs same as many other people. I'm in a calm sea, slight up and downs, blue sky with lots of sunshine but the occasional cloud. Plenty of fish, I see but I can't always catch one with my rod. The bait is fine, it's all the keeping the yacht going that keeps me from going over the side.

I'm quite a happy person.

Advice I was given: Be the peace you want to see in the world.

We all want someone or something to make us happy but are we happiness to them?

Share the love!
