the only disability that would put me off is total cock syndrome...when a mans appendage has totally taken control of his mind and his body and he has just turned into one great big knob...the other syndrome, equally as repelling is the total arse syndrome...same symptoms, not impossible for some guys to have both

Thought the flu meds had addled my brain, as I couldn't see what point was being made here either!

As someone who lost her sight eight years ago and was lucky to have most of it returned and who is often accused of selective hearing the mentioned disabilities wouldn't put me off.

However, I'm sure certain physical disabilities would put me off. This is fantasy for me and my fantasy doesn't include someone with missing limbs for example.

When your playing you will shout harder or not so hard or ouch if it hurts. I did have a wonderful deaf playmate a while back but i did get hurt more than i would normally do.

Recently we have been experimenting with sensory deprivation and gorgeous it is too. I have worn a blindfold from the point of getting into the car, being driven to a meet by my guy, not knowing where I was going, turning up, not knowing where I was, and never seeing the guy I played with either. The whole scenario was based exclusively on trust but also being deprived of sight made my other senses come alive so to speak. Didnt think I had such good hearing

As long as I was aware of the disability and what it entailed and whether certain things couldnt be achieved etc, I would be ok

No would not put us off but we do have steps to our place. Our most important criteria is that peeps are actively involved and that applied to everyone.

Well bieng totally honest i have a disability which quite a few dont know of due to the fact im not meeting.

Its rhumatoid arthritus and can affect me differently each and every day.

Would i meet someone similar ? then yes if i was meeting.

And i have been recently thinking seriously about leaving the "scene" because of it.

And yet my mind is not made up. ?????

no cause it would mean they couldnt see all my wobbly bits lol

seriously tho some disabilities would put me off meeting someone but i dont think sight or hearing would be one of them

i have a disabled dad and he lives life to the full, more than some able bodied people, and he loves life and pushes it to the limit, so would meet a disabled person without thought, i have , through my dad met alot of handycaped people and must say thet in the main they are more fun and have a great get up and go attitude compaired to able bodied people, in fact in the main have found people who have been through hard ship in any form to be much more interesting people

Kylie suffers from Fybrio Myalgia and it certainly has never affected who or when we do meets. Its the person inside that attracts not the physical side that people see, so theres a simple answer if you dont like what you see dont ask to meet.

It's about personality and making a connection, these things go way beyond any disabilities.

I have a female friend who ended up in a wheelchair for the best part of 2 years, I've always fancied her and the wheelchair didn't alter that.

The only advice I would give, is to make sure anyone you are meeting is aware of any disability, especially if it is going to affect communication or make a difference in how physical you can get.

I had a boyfriend who was blind, one of his eyes was a glass eye, this came out once whilst we were getting a little carried away, needless to say, the initial shock of seeing him without it (I was aware of it, but he never took it out when with me) broke the mood, but the helpless giggling as we tried to find it saved the evening!

Its like everything in this lifestyle, you need to be honest about your wants and desires, you certainly need to be honest about your needs!

I can relate to that i have Fibromyalgia and M.E. and same as you peaches have to take each day as it comes, even one hour to the next can change. People with disabilities ARE real people and should not be treated differently.

I don't think that there's any need for quite that much aggression! The OP has a reasonable question and it has been responded to in a very positive way, I would have reservations about meeting an amputee, not because I think the person is in any way 'less' than me but I really don't like the way the limbs look - it that makes me shallow, then I am but once again it's down to personal preferenaces. Z

Peaches I have read as far as your post and I want to put something in here for just you and myself I have a form of Arther to called Fibromyalgia I have cronic pain and fatige. I use a wheelchair to go out. Now I know with RA things can be difficult and this time of year is really bad. Please don't leave the site as once you feel a little better you can arrange a meet with someone who understands what is wrong with you and act accordingly. The people who I meet are told of my condition before hand and they know that I say what we do and what we don't do they also know when I say stop they have to stop. It does take me awhile to get over a meet but for me it is worth it.

Please think hard there are people out there in this site who do care and are willing to go with the guidlines that you set, you are to nice a person to give up something that you enjoy. Even when you are not meeting you still have a social contact with people without leaving your home when you are having a bad day. If you are like me just now with the weather we are having I am housebound.

Love to you and don't leave the site cause you can't meet just now that can change.

seriously, i have a medical condition that i'm seeing a specialist about next month. I have a problem with my pituitary gland and although not a disability can at times cause me to have anxiety and mood swings.I can't fully control them at the moment so we're not meeting. but that's just because i don't want people to think i'm just a miserable bastard. we wouldn't discount meeting people due to a disability,seen or unseen

Do you really think you need to know of a disability before you meet someone, you cant see all disabilities. If i remember i tell them about my arthiritis in my knee cause i cant get on top anymore as for my other i leave it to see if their going to be regular meets or not as then it would affect them

I encounter a lot of people with disabilites in my work at a gym, some physical and some mental, so I can relate to this disscussion a lot, Its a pleasure working with these individuals as their personalitys make my day worthwhile, to be honest I dont see them as disabled, I allways look for the positives and not the negatives and to answer the question I would not judge or dismiss a meet based on a disability.

I think coming from a family where there are disabilitys of many kinds has helped me out a lot, perhaps its a main reason why I can take a mature stance whereas some my age would not.

The majority of us are assuming that by disability we are referring to physical disability. There are many forms of mental disability but I probably wouldnt play with someone who had learning difficulites, not because I am judgemental, but because I would be afraid they didnt understand the concept of swinging

Depends on the disability if I'm honest, but if its something that they felt would compromise someone wanting to meet them - I'd hope they'd reveal it before hand as I imagine it'd hurt more if someone used it to reject them face to face.

Rightly or wrongly, I feel you should be honest.

I have sero-negative arthritis which is similar to rheumatoid arthritis but generally milder. I always feel that I should tell prospective meets that I have this problem because it does at times affect play and we may have to cancel at the last minute if I have a flare up. I never know what stage I should tell people though - while we're getting to know each other, just as we decide to meet or not until there's a problem. What do others think?

I do realise that the fact I've posted this on here means lots of people will now know lol!

As Michelle knows I too have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in recent months, for many weeks we were afraid it was RA.

I have chosen to take a step back from the playing side of FAB for just this reason but still have good days when I can do everything I used to with great gusto, just takes too many days to recover now.

I won't leave the site though as I have too many friends and social contacts whom I'd miss, stay and enjoy the friendships and fun you have made here, they can't be wiped away. xxxxx

I think you are taking a situation you have had and assuming its the same for everyone, I have never encountered anybody who as you said is a "dickhead who just happans to have a disability" and I am probally lucky I havent, not even sure why you needed to bring up the point you did to be honest.

Its rhumatoid arthritus and can affect me differently each and every day.

Would i meet someone similar ? then yes if i was meeting.

And i have been recently thinking seriously about leaving the "scene" because of it.

Peaches I have read as far as your post and I want to put something in here for just you and myself I have a form of Arther to called Fibromyalgia I have cronic pain and fatige. I use a wheelchair to go out. Now I know with RA things can be difficult and this time of year is really bad. Please don't leave the site as once you feel a little better you can arrange a meet with someone who understands what is wrong with you and act accordingly. The people who I meet are told of my condition before hand and they know that I say what we do and what we don't do they also know when I say stop they have to stop. It does take me awhile to get over a meet but for me it is worth it.

Please think hard there are people out there in this site who do care and are willing to go with the guidlines that you set, you are to nice a person to give up something that you enjoy. Even when you are not meeting you still have a social contact with people without leaving your home when you are having a bad day. If you are like me just now with the weather we are having I am housebound.

Love to you and don't leave the site cause you can't meet just now that can change.

As Michelle knows I too have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in recent months, for many weeks we were afraid it was RA.

I have chosen to take a step back from the playing side of FAB for just this reason but still have good days when I can do everything I used to with great gusto, just takes too many days to recover now.

Well that's the right attitude so good on you Lane. There is room for everyone here and the social side can be as much fun ass other aspects.

I have absolutely no problems at all with anyone with a disability, what's important is the personality. We all have our own issues and it seems crazy to exclude people who could otherwise be great friends and/or playmates.

As long as people are honest then if it requires any special considerations those can be met but they needn't exclude any potential fun between the people involved.

Also for those with Fibromyalgia, there's no reason to leave the site. My other half, also on the site, has Fybromyalgia and it hasn't stopped her swinging. It helps being open about it though so that other people understand what can happen to her, but it also helps in selecting possible meets as well. So in many ways it can be a positive.

To explain the reason for my question, I have Meniere's disease, it's severe, I'm constantly dizzy and have lost all my hearing in right ear and 25% in left.

I have tinnitus and I have a condition that makes the lesions that everyone has on their brain to be under my optic nerve, thus damaging them and have lost all peripheral vision and my eyes don't focus anymore.

I have been chatting to people before and after a while I've told them about my problems and they just stop chatting or even block me, so I just wanted to know peoples _iews

I think that if people have stopped chatting and blocked you, then they're pretty shallow! I have had tinnitus in the past and it's not a good thing but my hearing was ok, I also have extremely bad eyesight but can see with the contacts/glasses - Don't let the minority of ignoramus' (i?) put you off and carry on having fun!

My partner had a similar problem with his ear and balance due to diving for many years.

We had to carry a doctors certificate for him whenever we flew as he would sometimes stagger about so much airline crews would think he was d*unk!

He was able to make me dizzy and fall head over heels in love with him.

So never ever doubt yourself or your own specialness that people see in you, for those who block you there will be many more who will wish to befriend you. xxxxxx

thats what i meant to say earlier in my first reply to this topic.i totally agree with the sweeping statement reply.

iv worked with people with both learning difficulties and physical disabilities. doesnt matter whether ur disabled or not, everyone has their own character, and being disabled doesnt mean theyre angels, freaks, deaf, or unintelligent and/or have a nice personality or not. believe me i know lol. iv met nice and nasty folk from ALL walks of life.
