Does everyone hate it as much as I do.

I know I might make the occasional mistake when posting but I seem to be getting a lot of messages where I have to decipher what people are saying.

Didn't these people learn anything at school?

I can't imagine having a real life conversation with these peop,e, would it be full of Lie, re , you know, what, duhhhhhhh

No I don't hate text speak.

It's a shortened version for phones etc and it serves a purpose done well.

Problem is , those that cannot spell nor punctuate longhand cannot do so in text speak either.

There's a basic grounding in English speaking and writing needed for both.

I like it in context.

While it can be seen as lazy to some, it might be quite efficient to others..

I'd simply ask the txtspkr to take more time to send the message so that I can understand it..

I'd hate to think everyone discounts a potential meet on something that can be rectified quite easily

One of my recent meets uses quite a few abbreviations in her texts/messages..and I'd class her as a 'professional' person...if I assumed that she was thick or lazy just based on the messages..I think I'd have done myself a disservice and her..obviously.

My fb uses some text speak and he has an English degree from Oxford and speaks with a very posh accent. It doesn't bother me one bit.

I can just about tolerate it in certain contexts, but you're right, it's the basic fundamentals of putting a sentence together that's missing. I particularly hate when people's profiles ramble on and on with no punctuation whatsoever.

When I text people, I use words IN FULL. I learnt to read, write and use English properly and won't demean myself to shorten, debase or abuse the language.

I remember when on my pay as you go phone it cost 15p a text. If at the time I was seeing a girl it very often cost me a £15 topup a day in texts alone. If any text went just one character over the limit it counted as two texts and therefore 30p.

That's when txt spk was useful. Now there is no need for it, it's definitely a put off for us, a profile full of it is insta-delete, though the odd bit of spelling mistakes and common abbreviations isn't that bad.

Some people can be super intelligent,charming,and witty...across the internet/writing..

It's great to have a well functioning internal motor..but if you cant take it out for a drive with others...it's pretty much useless outwith its comfort zone.

I'd rarely judge someone on their text/writing, until I've at least had a real time conversation with them..

If it's all in text speak and I struggle to understand it, the chances are I'd decide they're not for me.

I once got a message on eBay in text speak with no punctuation at all... I had to restrain myself from requesting a translation
