"*pulls up chair and grabs popcorn*"

You have to say the flavour now, and what type of chair ...

In answer to the original post, they are trying to be funny and fit in?

I just associate the popcorn/chair comment with people that have time to sit around and watch the forums all day.

its a forum

Users can all join in however they wish as long as its not abusive etc.

It's standard forum speak, happens on all forums you'll visit. Means the thread will be entertaining (much like going to the cinema, hence popcorn) as it will stir up a lot of mixed views.

It is very annoying having to scroll through the usual suspects posts on a thread where they take the topic off on a tangent that is incredibly boring. The popcorn bollocks is childish and attention seeking by people trying to make their mates laugh. There's been a lot of cake going around lately. It's getting very old now,as my teenage grandson says to me. Some people have nothing witty or interesting to add to a thread but feel compelled to show their faces. Some are funny and don't swallow the whole thread up by carrying it on beyond funny into tedious. I think they should go and actually make a cake and stop talking about cake.

Doesn't mean it has to be said. We can work it out for ourselves. And usually those threads aren't entertaining because the rest of the crew turn up to take the piss out of the OP. They rarely go well.

Well said and as a newbie on the threads I had to be told what it meant as it comes across and the in-crowd too, which I don't like. I been posted a thread about popcorn to let people get it out of their systems, but only a few threads - really want to know about the question you asked on the other thread though, well done you .. lets get some debate going

Why worry about it? I post on here sometimes, I get the help or advice I ask for, people are honest, its what we post for, to get honesty about our problems etc, we might have. Ive given up worrying about anything Fab related. It would drive me mental if I did.

Because if you are better and more experienced than someone, you need to say something which indicates to other better and more experienced people that you are better and more experienced than the OP.

Simple.

You should be better than everyone and let them know. That's how we get by

I tend to ignore those what gets me is the ones who start a thread to take the piss out of someones opinion when they have given it in all good faith. Everyone's entitled to an opinion but some on here get personal when they disagree with yours.

People obviously don't have taste! Why choose to sit in a chair, eat popcorn/cake/haribos and watch the threads? When you can lie in bed, catch up on telly you've missed/porn and have a tub of Ben and Jerry's instead?! I'm about to do just that! If I watch porn whilst licking my ice cream off my spoon...is it classed as a threesome because I'm 'having' Ben and Jerrys?!?! Point made?!?

"It is very annoying having to scroll through the usual suspects posts on a thread where they take the topic off on a tangent that is incredibly boring. "

Ah! My Victoria sponge comments perchance?

I can't name names and I wasn't being specific. I tend to leave a thread when I have to keep scrolling. It makes me feel sick. I think you may have been a contributor to my very first thread asking for a good sponge recipe. It came out perfect. This thread has already gone to the dogs so I don't feel about mentioning cake.

Are you saying people who ask questions here don't have friends? That's a bit of a judgmental generalisation. How can you ask your friends how they like their anal? Or have you ever done anal and got sweet corn stuck under your foreskin??

Geez I didn't think I was being controversial at all tonight, let me try an summarize my stance:

If you like the forums- post and use them.

If you don't- then don't post or use.

Just don't complain when they don't solve the meaning of life or whatever the topic as a reasonable person wouldn't expect this to be the best source of information to do it.

And for complaining when pointless posts go up or add zero to debates...well that's the way it is here and getting angry about it means you actually thought you may get your meaning of life answer.

This is a place for laughs, semi informative topics and a lot of nonsense!!!! Part of the appeal

I didn't see anyone getting angry. We had a discussion about something that someone brought up. That's how forums work I think? If someone wants to use them different to you or I that is their prerogative. But someone may question them. I explained why I think some posters ruin a thread for me. Others may enjoy that. I don't tell anyone how to use a forum but I will voice my opinion when it comes up on a thread. Now I will allow you to get back to your jovial threads. Enjoy your evening

I dunno. Why do some people think they should be able to dictate what others write on here?

Just because people use the fora differently to you, and post in a way you don't like, doesn't make them wrong.

If they are breaking the rules, report them. If not, moaning about their posts has as much point as the posts you are complaining about.

I see several people on here preaching tolerance towards other posters whilst being pretty intolerant themselves.

There is a mix of people that use the fora, all with their own ideas about what is funny, offensive, stupid and whatever else.

If others are posting within the rules, we all have to put up with it, even if we don't like it.

Those trying to tell the *popcorn* posters what they can post, or trying to pressure them into changing how they post, are just as bad as anyone who drives (or tries to drive), another person from the site through intolerance of their posts.

Surprised no one has mentioned "tin hats!"

There are threads I avoid as I find them boring: you know the ones: they appear e-v-e-r-y day!

As I'm getting older my attention span gets shorter. If there's a possibility of me getting RSI scrolling through inane drivel, usually driven by people trying to bypass filters I move on and leave them to it.

My hypocrisy? That's funny.

You have been critical of what others post on this thread! And you did that before I had said anything at all. The hypocrisy is yours for criticising exactly what you yourself were doing.

If *popcorn* posts irk you and you feel justified in making negative comments about them, I'm not sure why you don't see that certain topics bother others, and they express that, just as you have here. And if there are things that irritate you on here after 2 weeks, imagine being on here for several years.

Not that I have to explain myself to you but it's not repetitive threads/posts that annoy me, it's certain subjects or types of comments that prompt negative responses from me.

For example, kiss/fuck/pass threads are constant on here. I find them banal but I've not posted on one to say that, nor do I start threads to slate them. I avoid them.

If you were to pay a bit more attention before deciding that I'm critical of repetitive threads, you'd see it's only on very particular types.

Now, I don't expect you to be sufficiently interested in what I say to notice which threads and posts I react to, I'm just pointing out that it's certain types of thread/post that prompt that type of reaction; just as you have been critical of a particular type of posts here.

You'd also be surprised, I think, about exactly what it is that bugs me.

Perhaps consider my posts on threads such as:

http://www.fabswingers.com/forum/lounge/416228

If you'd like a more rounded view of my contribution to the fora. I'll speak up if I think anyone is being unfairly attacked, even if I am the only one to think so.

I make more supportive and/or helpful posts on here than critical ones. However, if you wish to think the worst of me, that I'm a mean, nasty person, go right ahead; I'm not in the least bit bothered. To me, you are pixels on a screen.

Fab has the infidelity police, the spelling/grammar police and the STD police, we need a sense of humour police, too many have had theirs stolen

I see it as light hearted banter, nothing more. To me, this site (and life) should be fun and never taken seriously.

You were one of the first people I remember from when I first started using the forums. I noticed you made remarks to people when they wrote about a subject you had seen before. You rolled your eyes and said something like oh this again.

And yet, you think it's fine to criticise my criticism of others.

Unfortunately it's not up to you to dictate how anyone else uses the fora. If it breaks the rules, report it. Otherwise, you're stuck with it, like it or not.

I'm not a dictator and I wasn't criticising. Just pointing out your hypocrisy. No one will like everything posted on here obviously. Things get debated. Some don't like other people's side of the debate. I accept that. I also exercise my right to voice my opinion about something the same as you do. I don't say that people are wrong to post what they do,I don't tell anyone what they should or shouldn't post, I just say what I think of it,same as everyone else.

To me, you are pixels on a screen."

I don't mind the 'grabs popcorn'....

It just means - ooooo a debate. I'll keep watching.

It DOES have meaning. It's a communication from a forum user to others about their thoughts re a thread.

It allows the 'others' to know that they are not the only ones sitting watching as dynamic ( puerile or stimulating ) unfolds.

It's shorthand - nothing more.

There are more pressing issues in life and FAB.

What sort of truncheon? Basic wooden one or one of the extendable police types which are really good fun?

Of course you can always go old school. I have a soft spot for a good lignum wood truncheon. Serious weight and always feels like it wants to just batter you

"It is very annoying having to scroll through the usual suspects posts on a thread where they take the topic off on a tangent that is incredibly boring. "

I find it pathetic. It normally just smacks of people egging others in to an argument but not having the courage of their convictions to challenge a post themselves.

And it only takes a couple of popcorn type posts to steer a thread in a certain directuon (though granted the OP may well havr done that themselves)

I really wouldn't ask seemingly sensible questions like this, OP.

Even though it makes perfect sense, it's a red rag to the forum bulls and is bound to crash and burn.

You're best to just make your own popcorn comment to avoid the carnage!

As another poster said, it's a forum. Just navigate through the Haribo and popcorn nonsense and read the stuff you want.

Bloomin eck. Some people try and welcome new comers, stick up for the young men who get hounded off the fora by sarcasm and jealousy, give advice to people who are otherwise forum untouchables, cheer sad people up etc and all they get is "don't talk about cake". To all of you who as in real life chat to friends, move a topic on, try and be a bit amusing, share a joke and generally try to be a bit sociable please continue. Cos this is Attention-Seeking Central where the level of 'wit' is pretty low.

Even on this thread you can see the fuckwit popcorn/cake/haribo trolls pop up.

You're correct, as is the lady from ilford - those comments add absolutely nothing to a thread, but still they feel the narcissistic compulsion to take up space on Internet.

I guess it's how you look at it. I use forums for a bit of banter and never really take it that seriously. I mostly duck out of 'popcorn' threads cause I really can't be arsed with the sort of bickering that comes when people are incapable of having a debate with differing opinions without it getting personal. I have friends in real life whose opinions are different to mine, it doesn't make them less of a friend.

Like every thread, you can pass by the stupid posts, the posts with in jokes that you don't understand, the posts with Mr/Mrs Angry or the ones from those you consider dickheads. There's no need to be rude but there's also no need to get your knickers in a twist about stupid shit that has no bearing on your life. It's your choice, no-one else's.

I notice a lot of what you said and do it myself,I'm an honorary white knightess. I'm not having a go at people,my bug bear is scrolling through a topic that has been filled up with loads of quoted posts about something totally irrelevant to the topic. Sometimes the thread has already died, but I feel sorry for some OPs when they have been ridiculed and someone throws in a popcorn or cake comment. I think there's a time and place for cake. Now I'm not telling anyone how to use the forums,I am only saying how it affects me. I don't get irked by words unless they are being used to belittle someone. I've always liked the way you comment to others on here,I'm not being personal

I do think the forum is a small community within a community and a lot of the 'popcorn' posts are by people who have seen the same threads and posts over and again, have got the t shirts but also know a lot of the guys on here well enough to know who will bite. Its like knowing someone with a pet hate and pressing that button knowing the reaction. We all do it in real life, and most have it done to us.. on here its just there in black and white.

Treat it like a jeremy kyle compilation..you love it, you hate it, you hate to love it and you never admit it.

Possibly different people. I don't find contributing intimidating either on the net or in real life but I can understand that many do and it must seem as if the most outspoken among us leave no room for them. This in the main isn't true but again as in life you get nowhere by hanging back

I think its a question of perception, I have no idea if you consider me to be part of the clique of bullies that you mentioned but where I see unkindness I try to mention it. However I can see from this thread that sometimes for example when I was larking about with a cake joke other people see things very differently to me.

I think its a question of perception, I have no idea if you consider me to be part of the clique of bullies that you mentioned but where I see unkindness I try to mention it. However I can see from this thread that sometimes for example when I was larking about with a cake joke other people see things very differently to me."

I'm sure some people think you are part of a clique of bullies and know that some view me like that. And as you say it's perception. I say what I think and don't court popularity. Others are the polar opposite of that mindset. And others think that we should all be one happy family. Being honest some of the posters I respect the most are those that I disagree with the most

Sorry I'm doing a long quote .

I look on the fora as a sort of pub bar, people will know each other and start chatting, there will be the usual pub bores, newcomers, in jokes, the bloke whose wife just left him....well you get the picture. I actually understand where people are coming from here but I don't think there's anything one can do about it.

If there was something that could be done and the forum was changed, it wouldn't be the same beast and then would people still want it?

Are you sure you aren't confusing thius with another forum

Or confusing people having gifferent opinions and/or not liking each other as bulling/trolling. Suggesting that bullying goes on unchallenged is rubbish the mods can and do step in, it's just that they don't unneccesarily stifle deabate"

somebidy said earlier popcorn means a thread is entertaining and will cause controversy. thats seldom how its used, its normaly used as look at this dickhead we know something he doesnt.

grabs popcorn is hardly an opinion is it just spam.

I wasn't talking about your cake joke,I don't recall ever seeing it. My cake reference spans over years of using the forums and observing how quickly a thread can fill from one cake joke. It's something that stands out to me,the same as the popcorn people. I've taken threads off on a tangent myself accidentally and gone to pm so it doesn't eat up the posts. Cake can become very sickly after a while and not everyone likes it. I was pointing out that I leave a thread when the bakers turn up because I can't scroll through the quoted posts. I do that with any subject though.

"I think people take things waaaaaaaay too seriously."

If people swapped cock for cake I wouldn't mind. It's all subjective on here.

"Everyone was new on here at some point. Shame more people can't remember what it was like.

It's always the same ones with the popcorn. It says more about them than anything else. "

I remember my first posts, it was bloody hard work and was largely ignored, I was convinced there was a clique, but hadn't realised that a lot of the regular posters had met each other.

I carries on posting and got off my arse to attend Fab socials and became a little more acepted.

I still think the popcorn posts are unnecessary and when there is a thread I'm enjoying reading gets spoiled by the comments and hijacked. Although easy to ignore and scroll past, I just think it's rude and beyond 'banter'.

I agree, I respect integrity and that can be in short supply BUT if you're only here chasing sex (and why not?) you may be need to behave differently.
