Whats the best foreign language film you have ever seen mine has to be i saw the devil a korean film and frontiers wich is a french film but what is yours? No porn before you start!!!

Yes, as well as the Vengeance Trilogy. He also did a cyborg one for his teenage daughter (can't remember the name) which was good, too.

Seven Samurai, Les Diaboliques, Nikita, Das Boot, REC, Oldboy, The Wave. Too many brilliant foreign films to pick just one favourite.

Special mention though for the original Dutch version of The Vanishing - the most unforgetable, creepy and genuinely disturbing ending that I've ever seen.

La Haine is excellent, very much along the lines of Luc Bessons Ronin (technically French, but part financed from Hollywood IIRC?) if you like those, look out for an Italian film called Romanzo Criminale and also the original version of Taxi (1&2) also from Luc Besson.

Most of Pedro Almodóvar's stuff is pretty good,

Run Lola Run is rather unique and an excellent way to spend 90 minutes.

There was a remake of a classic French Trilogy, Marius, Fanny, And Cesar done a few years ago.

Further into Europe, the Russians did an excellent big budget (for them) vampire flick 2 parter, Night Watch and Day Watch.

Head to the other side of the planet and you'll find a load of fantastic films from Oz & NZ, including Romper Stomper, Rabbit Proof Fence, Once Were Warriors and Whale Rider

Absolutely agreee with Fabio here- they make some great movies in that part of the world - OK they may appeal to a different audience than Hollywood nonesense, but for those of us with more than just a couple of brain cells an the attention span of a gnat, they are definitely worth checking out. Baz Lurman's films are brilliant.

El mariachi is class...basically launched Robert Rodriquez career (think the guy who works eith Tarantino, sin city etc)

Love the fact tho whole film was made for $8,000 and his mum did the catering for the crew/cast so you have to forgive the lack of CGI on bullet wounds.

Yes indeed, for how low the budget was, it was very well crafted and yes, he has worked with tarantino on several projects including django unchained if memory serves

I also liked Jean de Florette and a Japanese film called Like Father Like Son. But if I have to have a favourite I would probably say Untouchable - a feelgood French film about a quadriplegic and his carer.

2008 remake of a 1956 classic. I haven't seen the original but I loved the remake. Excellent war film.

I saw that but found it Difficult to watch!!

For Asian Cinema I really enjoyed Oldboy (Twisted film) Lady Vengeance, The Chaser and Hansel & Gretal

Other great foreign films in my opinion include Amores Perros, Pans Labrynth

There's a brilliant Bollywood film called Devdas the 2002 remake is visually stunning. It's not cheesy like your usual Bollywood. Should check it out!!

Damn, I forgot Betty Blue. Gorgeous film. Some other brilliant old French films - The Wages of Fear, Rififi, Le Samourai (really cool), Le Boucher, The 400 Blows, Eyes Without A Face, The Battle of Algiers.

Few more foreign-language faves: The Spirit of the Beehive, The Nasty Girl, Man Bites Dog, A Better Tomorrow I and II, Sonatine, Life is Beautiful (if you haven't seen this do watch it - it'll make you laugh and break your heart)

She was the poster girl for the 80s. I haven't watched that film since the 80s actually. I suspect it hasn't quite stood the test of time.

In other news, I'm quite partial to any Kristen Scott-Thomas film where she speaks French.
