I'm not even sure what it's called but it was a small Renault, quite a new model, but it was horrible, steering wheel was off centre to seat, pedals as well, the brake pedal and the accelerator were so close together that if you have big feet like me... You pressed both together!

The engine was utterly horrible and no matter how you feathered the clutch if you went doing a minimum of 2000 rpm it stalled and jerked, you had to race every gear to 4000 rpm just to dive at normal speed, the boot had about as much space as a hat box, the head height inside was appalling and the seats were about as comfy as sitting on old logs!...

And the colour was only a thing a mother could love

Slowest car on the planet, no idea what any of its parts are for, called it a bag of shit on 4 wheels and it knew I hated it as only ever switched straight on when my daughter drove. I've driven quite a few cars, from entry models to cars in excess of £100K

Worst - 100% has to be a corsa Eco flex, which has to be the most lifeless excuses of a car I've ever come across.

A close second comes an Astra SRI - for the price of them they are dreadful...slightly better than the cords though.

Also not impressed with the Range Rover evoke - for the price of them I think they're quite lacking, nice torquey engine but other than that, they're just too expensive. Plus you get absolutely nothing on the entey model.

It's far from a bad car, but it's just the price of them....even second hand.

Think my mum spent £28k on an SE, they come with no extras, not even Bluetooth. No window tints (privacy glass as the dealerships call it) and they wanted £4000 to put a double din sat nav head unit in

Or £1200 for an after market top of the line double din head unit supplied and fitted......just shows how much dealerships rip you off

Worst for handling was a Rover 220 diesel I had as a company car (wedge front model, pre bubble butt model)- it required 2 weeks notice to consider changing direction.

The Ford Kak takes some beating for utter shittyness and comfort. Worst one I owned was probably a Ford Granada- I kept a socket set on the passenger seat to fix the rocker bolts every 20ish miles

Dullest expensive cars are Mercedes- tedium on 4 wheels

Many years ago I was given a small Daewoo as a courtesy car. It was truly awful despite being pretty much brand new.

I was driving up to Scarborough to meet family, and didn't dare go over 40 as it felt like it would shake itself apart.

This is by far the worst vehicle I've ever driven, and I've driven quite a few. Even an ancient Beetle with a horrible gearbox was better!

Where to start, there have been so many

First car was a Renault 14 which my brother actually improved by crashing it.

Ford Cortina was ok'ish apart from replacing void bushes every couple of months.

Drove loads of crap cars when I had the garage/car modifying business but lots of great ones too.

Single worst car I ever probably drove was a Volvo V40 that a mate bought off ebay and asked me to collect, should have been in a scrap yard not on the road, so much so I refused to deliver it to him as it was plain dangerous.

Worst model of car made though, I'd have to say Vauxhall Frontera, every one I drove was atrocious.

Gonna show my age now.

An Austin maxi.

1750 car must have weighed about 3 tons lol

Horrible horrible piece of Crap.

It was only in my life less than 24 hrs I purchased it from some pikeys near the Colnbrook bypass, for 30quid they gave me a 5ltr can of oil and "here lad, you'll be needing this "

??

Turns out it burnt more oil than petrol and needed a top up every few miles.

It gave up completely on way to work I was going to ealing and was on the road under Chiswick bypass near Chiswick roundabout.

Gave up in middle Lane,

Took about 8 helpful people to push it into the bus stop.

I grabbed my tool bag left keys in ignition windows wound down and left it.

Must have been there almost two months before it either got towed or pinched.

Luckily the trail back to myself was impossible due to the guy's not filling logbook out.

What a horrendous pile of rat's shit of a vehicle.

Its only redeeming feature was it's size,if anything short of a articulated lorry or a tank hit you they would have come off worse.

Three candidates spring to mind, an early Renault Clio,a Fiat Cinquecento ( which to this I cannot pronounce)and a 1.6 Sierra.

The Clio I actually hated, it had no temperature gauge, just an "engine fucked " light.

It was slow and the wipers motors were worn, it wasn't very old,and made a horrible noise.

I paid £25 for it and pulled it of a neighbours garden and wished I hadn't bothered, surprisingly it got nicked.

The Fiat was truly awful, the head gaskets went three times, also had the engine fucked light,it had electric steering which would, for fun, sometimes didn't.

The Sierra was a boring, super dull car.

My first car was a Yugo Zastava in a rather endearing shade of puke yellow and the drivers I worked with at the time reckoned it was candle powered.

Three months after I got it I had a blow out on the M6 and had to call the AA out as the jack didn't work - he then had to take me to a tyre fitter as the spare wheel didn't fit the car!

For the price I paid for it it was a great car which got me up and down the motorway every week (and I did rather like how unusual it was lol) xx

My old man had an allegro when I was a kid. I hated that car with a passion. Looked like a pig on wheels, why did they always do them in crappy colours? Often beige bodywork with brown interior, lol. Went to wind window down once and it just dropped fully into the door, was sitting on back seat once and it dropped about 6 inches to the floor, you could unlock the doors with a pair of scissors, shocking car. I often refused to go in it unless absolutely necessary, if I had a lift to football training in it I would get my dad to drop me about 3 streets away as I didn't want to be seen in it.

My brother had an estate version, it got used in an episode of Sorry and seized up shortly afterwards. "

A sorry car for a sorry episode.

Yes Leyland Daf van otherwise known as the sherpa. I once drifted it round a bend after it had been snowing and the road was all slushy, I was really surprised it went fast enough to drift.

Costa Blanca Spain...

Lots of great contenders for the worst car ever on this thread but from someone who had 25 years in the job here are a few others (mostly from the 70's)

Wartburg Knight. East Germany's finest (yes it was slightly better than a Trabant) 2 stroke engine, clouds of blue smoke, and if you didn't use the "Freewheel" on the gearbox you could quite easily blow up the engine by just decelerating from high speed.

Moskvich (spelling) This was the predecessor of the Lada, only heavier, uglier, and less reliable.

Hillman Imp and derivatives. Rear engine and one of the first experiments with alloy head. Always overheating with the resulting warped head. Also the front end was so light you had to put something very heavy in the "boot" so you could feel the steering.

Anything from the old "Chrysler France" Simca anyone? Total pieces of shit. They were eventually re-branded as Talbot (just as bad) then were taken over by Peugeot (slight improvement)

The original Jaguar XJ6. Looked great in its day and performed quite well but a complete rust bucket.

Anything Lancia. For the same reasons as the Jag.

Ditto anything Fiat or Alfa Romeo. I think the Alfasud was probably the biggest rust bucket EVER to appear on British roads.

How many of you remember that lot?

The Alfa Sud, aside from the rust was an epic car. It's also the reason Alfa switched to galvanised metals when building cars (they were the first company to do so).

A lot of good came out of that car, I'd have one in a heartbeat.

My uncle had a Hilman Imp, he's been dead a decade or so but the car is still very much alive and in excellent working order and has required no major mechanical work in its entire life.

Most overrated car I've driven a Fiat 500.

Worst build quality car I've ever owned Talbot Alpine, It started to rust the moment it was driven out of the showroom.

Most unreliable and expensive was a Land Rover discovery. The 2 years I owned it, it spent 10months in the garage having endless electrical problems. Then the gearbox was the final straw.

The most reliable cost effective car owned was a diesel rover 400. By the time we parted 250,000 miles trouble free motoring.

Currently own a grand Piccasso diesel, great ride great economy, but it has a few gremlins which I'm Happy to live with.

I suppose with the Imp it is the exception that proves the rule. Nearly every one we had either needed engine work or had it previously done. As for the Alfasud. Maybe some good did come out of it, but not if you were one of the unfortunates that owned one that fell to bits under your feet.

Totally agree but Alfa really upped their game after the Sud. Sadly the stereotype has stuck, which is a shame because the cars are excellent when they're looked after properly.

The worst car I've had was a Peugeot 207 S16

Only made 250 of them and by the time it was nearly three years old and had around 55,000 miles it was fucked. I only owned it around 6 months.

Full gearbox rebuild, clutch, piston rings, wheel bearing at the front and used to have the oil light come on every 5000 miles or so.

Handling was amazing though just a case of point it where you want to go and put your foot down

Probably the worst ever example of giving a car the wrong name was the "Triumph Acclaim"

It was the first joint venture between British Leyland and Honda and was supposed to give them a foothold in the German market.

Problem was that "Triumph Acclaim" pretty much translates as "Zieg heil"

You really couldn't make it up.

Could be any number of things. Is there a burning smell? If so the clutch might be slipping.

When was it last serviced?

Have a compression or sniff test done to rule out head gasket failure.

Is it petrol of diesel?

Does it pick up well in other gears or do the revs rise and then fall back before it drives smoothly?

have a look in your water tank and make sure it's all clean and no oily scum on top and also take the oil cap off and check that the underside of it isn't covered in something that looks like mayonnaise... Both are classic signs of head gasket failure.

Also check the air filter isn't blocked and also check the pipes from the air filter to the I let manifold don't have splits in them.

These things are hard to diagnose on a forum with little/no information I'm afraid.

If it's only affecting 1st then it's either a compression, air/fuel or gearbox fault. All are some to diagnose with the car in front of you.

I should also point out that it's French, so definitely time for a new car!
