Now 4.5 years later it's back with a vengeance. Up the back of my left leg and my left bum cheek are ruddy killing me!

Any good remedies? I just put up with it last time but this is ouchy!!

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

You probably should see an osteopath and get it manipulated. It is such a painful thing.

McTimoney

CHIROPRACTIC ASSOCIATION google them.. its the type of chiro I use and unlike the other type not as painful but in my case more effective.

The cracking type does not suit me at all. see if you can find one in your area.

Usually they sort me in one session. Sorry you in pain Sciatica is horrid . x

Failing that get the meet to give you a good massage

Every sympathy! Have had it several times after twisting awkwardly.

I was in agony for weeks and dreaded going to bed because I couldn't sleep at all.

If it's mild, it will probably go after a few weeks, if it's moderate, certain exercises can help; see osteopath and check web, there are a few useful ones out there.

If severe, you may need a cortisone injection. Go to a specialist and get a . scan. They'll advise....

I've suffered since a teenager with it. A few years ago I met a man on here who gave me a sports massage. It was painful but I didn't have any more problems until recently, due to my own sitting wrong

Best stretch, lie on your back, put ankle of the leg on the bad side on top of the opposite knee, then gently pull the knee towards your chest until you feel a stretch in your glute. You can also use a massage ball on the piriformis to loosen it up

I'd go see the doctors, they will be able to refer you to a physio. I did find pilates helped alot when it wasnt too bad.

Some say yoga is meant to help with sciatica. The one thing I've discovered when I attempt to do yoga (I'm getting there slowly) is that if I go too crazy with the back bends where the back would bend backwards that sets it off. Also if I sit in certain positions for too long.

I'm too getting tempted to see a chiropractor as I rarely warm up / cool down before and after workouts so I've ended up quite stiff and knotted up all over.

Hope you get it sorted soon as sciatica pain is horrible and consistent.

A lot of the time you just have to bear with it, but some gentle exercises can help such as lying on your front and pushing up on your arms...I have a bulging disk that presses on the sciatic nerve, I actually fucked myself up doing exercises recommended by the physio (standing straight against the wall and going up and down it)...touch wood, I've not had an episode for over 2 years but I still have semi permanent cramp down my left leg so I know there is still a bit of a bulge

Had it bad due to slipped discs for over 20 years I'm old!

Physio and chiro best.

Meantime for temp relief:

Heat pads not ice

Don't avoid moving

When pain bad: lie flat on floor bum tucked against front of sofa, legs positioned so calves on seat of sofa. Periodically hug one knee to chest but don't force. Don't stay there more than 30 mins

Could look at the cause of why it has come back hottie? Is it because of your new exercise regime and have you been overdoing it?

I had it once before after twisting funny at work, terrible pain but went to the docs and 2 weeks bed rest sorted it out.

I tried chiropractic but it didn't work for me, however a good osteopath did. Mine does deep tissue massage on the surrounding tissues and only cracks if that doesn't loosen it.

Yoga can help too.

I haven't done any exercise since may it's a lot better today. Maybe I did something to aggravate it at work.

Don'tpgo near a chiropractor a xross between faith healers and conmen. Calling them parasites is a compliment to the way they operate.

Find a decent osteopath ideally who also does sports massge and/or physio. You might need manipulating back in to place and they should be able to give you stretches to prevent a recurrence.

What ever you do, don't attempt to train through it!

My Sciatic Nerve is associating with the Piriformis muscle, and my physio gave me this exercise to stretch the muscle ...

Physio also gave me a 'nerve glide' exercise to do - lay on your back, towel round the back of the knee of the affected side, lift thigh to vertical using the towel, and then, with ankle at right angles, lift your lower leg from the horizontal, to a comfortable height ...

Physio wants to manipulate the muscle, but after she scraped me off the ceiling when she tried, she's suggested the small ball to massage the muscle, as you're in control of what you can manage ...

Hey, don't leave near you so I can't be much help to massage but ... Get a tennis ball under your bum cheek while laid on floor and roll the ball under in circles (both cheeks) do this for 5-10 minutes, if you feel some pain in a particular area hold it there for around 10-20 seconds. Also put a 2l bottle of water in freezer. When frozen use this on you hamstring (musscle on back of upper leg) again sat down roll it back and forth up and down your leg, make sure though your wearing thick trouser so not to get an ice burn.

Save yourself maybe £100's there

For the love of, don't go to a chiropractor. Find yourself and osteopath and not someone who believes all ailments including asthma etc are caused by misalignment of the back. An osteopath at least has a grounding in some real science.

In general though, exercise, pain killers ideally ibuprofen, acupressure massage are the best things. If it doesn't settle down go and see a doctor in case it is something more permanently wrong with the spine.

My workmate had it. It would come and go. But this time around she ended up having to have an op on her back to sort it out

She was fcuked for months beforehand. Wasn't nice seeing her in so much pain constantly

She's right as rain now though
