This morning walking to work I passed a young man looking at the bus timetable. He must have got frustrated by the bus being late or something and as he turned away raising his hands helplessly to the air ... I received a backslap in the face.

Boy was I pissed. He said sorry but I was so angry at his lack of awareness I did not even turn to look at him just carried on.

Have others noticed increasing lack of awareness of other people. I certainly have, peeps shoving in front of you to get through a door or letting doors slam on you, groups of friends taking up all the pavement and moving the absolute minimum so they brush you as you pass. It worries me.

I agree, people have far too many distractions nowadays, phones i-pods etc. I give no quarter to those that are not looking where they are going. Hmm, that goes for drivers too!

Sounds like the bloke who hit you just didnt see you, sadly we dont have 360 degree vision and sometimes it's just an accident.

But I agree about general rudeness, shoving, spitting, clogging up the place.And not just confined to the young, often the worst culprits are OAPs who are usually the first to complain about the manners of the youth of today.

oh I realise it was just an accident but it was most unpleasant. However, I think people need to raise their awareness of others, especially in public places, there are bound to be others around at a bus stop and this involved exercising thoughfulness with the limited personal space available.

Totally agree with the op, was walking the dog today and was faced with three schoolchildren oncoming. The dog was off the pavement on the grass but they still barged past, as i refused to move off the path- just bloody rude!

I'm lucky in that respect- I always keep the dogs on a short leash when walking on a pavement, however, as I have a rottie, I tend to find people avoid us But I agree, peeople just don't see what's coming toward them

Nope i moved right over and moved my dog off the path for them, they were too busy talking to each other to really notice.

Perhaps you want to re-visit your post then! Says you refused to move off the path and if you knew one of them would "barge" you, you could have moved, especially as you say that "they were too busy talking to each other to really notice."

Doesn't sound like anything more or less than a "Victor Meldrew" moment from you!

I dealt with 12 yr olds today at work and just got attitude then he spat at me all because they were asked to leave for play fighting and swearing where i work but lucky for him the cameras were watching

Yeah - the defiant little twats who attend a high school which I have to pass whilst dropping Mrs Red off to work every morning.

I'm not sure if they are unaware of their surroundings or just downright defiant ignorant little bastards because they seem to act as though they are invincible and that they can walk out in front of my van as if it wasn't there. Despite the blasting horn and me shouting obscenities out of the window, they seem to carry on as though nothing has happened

Van versus high school kid .....
