I currently work in a small call centre that is shutting shop on Friday ( only been informed of this tday) I've got the option of working from home, doing the same job for the same company, but self employed on a commission only basis. Struggling wether to risk it and hope I can still earn a decent living, or join the job queue and hope something comes up sharpish! Anyone else been in a similar situation, and how did it pan out??

No, but if it were me I think I'd take them up on their offer, and keep looking for something better alongside it, whilst seeing how it works out financially.

I believe that there is some on here that do work from home and do a good job of it

what you have to watch for is the commission of your job could be plenty of hours and only get a few jobs in to pay for what you do

if your ringing around then you need to be on a free call system that most do have

theres a but to it once they find out your a business then you may have to change it

its not easy and its damn hard work my advice try looking now for another line of work in the same field

but best of luck in what you decide to do

I work from home as and when I want. All I need is an internet connection so I can sit outside and happily work away. Don't work in sales though.

You have to be pretty disciplined as I get easily distracted by stuff around me. I would say take it you can always find something better while your doing it.

I'd imagine you'd still be earning more on commission than you'd get on jobseekers.

So if I were you I'd take their offer but also actively be looking for a new job.

I work from home, but I don't keep regular 9-5 hours, I work when I want to.

I'm a sole trader though, your company might want you keep office hours (or a similar pattern) so that's something to bear in mind.

I'm self employed and work from home (or wherever I want as it's an online business) and I am easily distracted. Some days I find I've done absolutely nothing, which just gives me more to do in the long run.

I personally wouldn't give up the offer of work even if it is on commission only, take it and look for something more stable while earning the commission. People say jobs are hard to come by and I appreciate that they can be but if you're willing to be flexible there's a job out there for everyone. I got a taxi when I first moved to Huddersfield and after a brief chat with the driver he asked if I'd come work in his office - 1 day in a brand new town and a job offer - they're there if you look for them.

The number of unemployed is greater than the number of vacancies. Clearly there isn't a job for everyone.
