Why can't people write a simple sentence without it being full of mistakes that takes ages to read so you just end up deleting it lol

That's true bad spelling isn't a sign of stupidity, as long as I can understand a message then I'm not so bothered. If I can't understand it then how can I be certain if I'd understand someone?

Sadly though that is the commen misconception. You can't spell your thick. Thankfully in both our cases that's far from true. Id tell you what i do but why bother I'd be sinking to the level of this very commen thread and intelligence. Best of luck with your masters i no it can't be easy

Yeah,,,,, but here's the thing some of the histories most admired writers, poets , radical thinkers, leaders in world affairs, inventors , scientist etc etc were not proficient in the sepelling department .....

So I like to think as long as a misspelling can be understood it takes a small minded person too find fault with the authors intentions.

How are there so many mistyped words when our phones and browsers go out of their way to autocarrot what we type?

Do I hate bad spelling? No. But I am sometimes compelled to correct the spelling if I'm quoting .

What I find worse is missing punctuation, poor grammar or txt speak, because these can make the message or post difficult to read or understand.

I can tell the difference between reading a message from someone who is say dyslexic ( as the content still flows its just a little jumbled on occasions ) than someone who hasn't maybe had the best schooling / using random yoof text speak.

It doesn't bother me but if I can't understand the first line, the message gets deleted.

You haven't forgotten your own name, your conscious mind thinks you have. The structure of sentences is processed unconsciously. The unconscious is much more powerful than our conscious minds.

My teenager does that, instead of maybe chuckling he'll say 'that's lol'

I use text speak a lot more now as I find he responds much quicker if I do ~ it then spills over into other messages.

I dislike bad spelling and grammar but some people really struggle with it due to dyslexia. 2 of my good friends can't spell because of it. One is a student career advisor and one is the director of a charity. Evidently it hasn't held them back in their careers so why should it hold them back elsewhere in their lives?!

Lots of reasons why people's spelling may appear 'wrong', including writing on small screens, where visibility is poor, speech to text, where the PC gets it wrong - perhaps like op - or personal circumstances. I make mistakes here, so unless I can't understand someone, I just persevere.

Text speak came about as a character saving method so you could send a longer text without having to pay for two

Modern phones removed the need for this.

If you still had to pay like you used to text speak wouldn't of died the death it has.

The likes of ur, k etc are still around.

I still use wtf, tbh when texting.

dyslexia is not all about just spellings

structuring sentences, thought and ideas can also be difficult or impossible.

and grammar and punctuation,is part of that structuring, which lets face it, they were sometimes crap at teaching you anyway....

so my feeling is, i would prefer someone to write in the forums or post a message, without all these "desirable" qualities,

than stay away, cos they felt they were being judged or looked down upon..

a little more thought about the person you are criticizing, and a little more thankfulness, that its not you, struggling to communicate by the written word..

love to all x

People should concentrate on what`s being said, by being a grammar Nazi they can miss some important points, someone with a learning difficulty could write something that changes your life for the better, and you miss it because of a few mistakes. Don`t exclude people.

Just going to say I'm dyslexic but have two degree's.

Had one twit on hear already gone on about my spelling and belittling me and wondering if I went to school or not. And then deciding to take it opon his self to carry on being abusive.

Yes he was blocked and reported.

People presume to quick. I can understand people not likeing text talk but going on about grammar or spelling. Isn't really a problem.

Then you need to get over it! As there are many reasons for people not being able to spell! ... Time to except them as you also hope to be excepted in to society, wearing make up and dresses! Spelling doesn't make the man!

. Maybe some people should have worked harder at school or are failing to regularly assess their strengths and weaknesses ..Studying Latin at school would also have helped .

I have recently enrolled in evening classes in French and purchased The Usbourne Guide to Better English , grammar , spelling and punctuation. At a cost of £9.99 it was money well spent .

I personally hate noticing I've spelt something wrong, but don't worry about others. Unless it's in work and it's an important document etc. Bad spelling isn't a deal breaker, I dislike grammar and punctuation when it's rubbish, and any use of 'lol' just kills me

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

There's generally an obvious difference between "fat finger" typo's, honest mistakes, text speak, and wilfully typing nonsense.

My expectations, and therefore tolerance of the above, vary depending on the medium - forum posts are typed quickly and cease to be focused on very quickly, whereas messages will be re-read and need to differentiate the sender. Profiles should show signs of having been read by their owner at least once!

Just a question rather than a criticism. Is there a reason why you invariably leave a space between a word and a punctuation mark?

Surely its just personal preference? People can judge poor spellers if they wish; because they can. If you don't like it then delete block and move on. There has to be some chemistry for it to work and if bad spelling turns you off........

Anyway , we had a thought . This may spice up our meets .

We are gonna take a pad and paper out with us , and before play we are gonna get the meet to spell 10 words . If they one any wrong it's a forfeit - perhaps just a hand job and no oral or shagging , 2 wrong and no kissing either , 3 wrong and they can move on .

As our meets are outdoor we may need a torch , but allowances for bad light may be made .

as we know from the other threads that come up on this topic... you are allowed to have preferences of all forsm... just so long as they aren't spelling related....

big cock.... cool

good body.... fine

good sense of humour.... please

BBW, black, white, rich, tall, pretty...... yes yes yes yes yes!!!

good speller...... nooooooo!!!!!!!! burn in hell!!!! how dare you!!!

look... we all make spelling mistakes...and god bless spell check because I would make a lot more than i do..... but there is a difference between making mistakes and being lazy...

if it get to the point where i have to read something three times to make heads or tails of something that is being said.. i tend to find the attraction has gone a lot by then.....

worthing

Some of the worst disasters and jokes have been the result of spelling or grammatical mistales.

Equally, some of the most heroic acts and best jokes are the result of the various miss-spellings and play on the language that would never get past a mechanistic grammar or spell checker.

We are humans, not machines...I cringe at some of the errors but accept that people are at least trying to communicate.

And don't get me started on mathematical errors, like 87% of a sample of 101 women preferred Black-My-Root's shampoo.

No smilies were injured in this post. Please treat them with respect.

Most people on here are probably texting from phones, most probably at times when in company or trying to hide the fact they are on a swinger site, the last thing they think about is spelling and grammar.

Its a forum not a novel or a contract and most people with an ounce of common sense can work out what is being written!
