I've done Kilimanjaro, pack light is my best tip. Not to many sets of clothes. One dry kit in a plastic bag for camps. One set for hiking, and a spare.

A good set of thermal base layer.

Oh and hydrate, hydrate and when you've done enough hydrating.......hydrate some more

Don't be too ambitious. If you haven't been to altitude before don't take diamox, let your body tell you how fast to go. If your in Leicester I would ask people in the Bowline or North Leicester climbing clubs for advice

Get the best boots you possibly can, walking up stairs two steps at a time is good exercise for mountaineering. How high are you going?

Thanks for both the humoured and valuable advice and hints

I am climbing just over half way.

I doubt there will be eye shadow but most definitely there will be SPF 50.

Be prepared for massive changes in climate and as it is rainy season at the moment don't be disappointed if you can't get to many places as the roads always go out and after the quake things will be a lot worse than before. Enjoy the people and the culture and the wierd and wonderful people you will meet.

Yes,

Climb all the way to the top+ count your steps.

Then go back down, and using your Casio calculator divide that number by 2.

Then start climbing again -counting the steps whilst keeping an eye on the calculator screen. When the 2 numbers are the same- you are halfway up.

Or just guess, but then you may be riddled with doubt for the rest of your life.

Who wants to climb 0.04986 of the way?

Coming down keep toenails well trimmed as your feet will be continously be pushed to the front of your boots. Prickly heat powder and a good lice comb and shampoo. Antiseptic cream for the bedbugs, better to stay in your own tent etc. Anusol for the sore bum from having the trots.

Better still come to the western isles for unpolluted climbing and get yourself well fucked by a clean hygienic couple. Anusol provided.
