Would you want to know if you had a brother or sister out there, even if that sibling may have been conceived through infidelity on your father's part?

Yes... My parents split up when I was one & a half and I haven't seen my biological dad since, I've always been curious about possible siblings though.

Yes!!

I only met my sister at the hospital as my father was dying. It was sad really as I had another sister I never met before she died.

Family is everything x

If the person had made a concerted effort to contact me I would consider the options.....

But I certainly wouldn't instigate the initial contact....

My mum had a daughter before me but my grandad made her put her up for adoption as mum was young & unmarried. I found out when I was 19. I have no desire to meet her although my mum has had limited contact.

So the situation is that my mother go involved with a married man when she was 19, he left his wife who he had a son with, and from my understanding went back to her after she threatened suicide and/or him not to see his son. By which time I'd been conceived (his wife also knows I exist) . I was brought up brilliantly by who I know to be my dad and I have no interest in having a relationship with my biological father but I do know he went on to have another two children. Now I don't know if any of them know about me or not, but I would be interested in getting to know them. I guess even though I've done without them for 32 years there's always a fear of rejection! I don't want to come along and turn their world's upside down. So I guess the question is do I or don't I?

Ive been thru similar. Found them . Once the novelty of me wore off i was forgotten about again, but at least i answered all my questions.

i used to wonder 'what if' . Now i just think ' i tried and although it didnt work out the way i wanted, i got my answers'

I have two half brothers and a half sister out there but I have no interest in getting to know them because my limited experiences with my biological father's family have shown them to be a selfish bunch and I really cba with any drama it will cause as I have no idea if they know about my sister and I because we were the product of an affair.

My step-dad is my Dad, his daughters my sisters and their children my neices & nephews. Family is important, but to me that isn't always about blood.

Most definitely yes you do. It could go fantastically and you all get on so well. It could end up in rejection.

However it is always better to regret something you have done but now know where you stand.

Than to leave it too late and die wishing you had done something.

I have three half sisters that I know of. The eldest of them is thirty years younger than me so I don't really see the point of getting to know them. Plus their mother can't stand me, which might make things awkward.

Yep this exactly although my mum has no contact. I'm not even remotely curious....there are too many weird family members as it is without adding to it!

Yes and no. I have 2 siblings at least on my dad's side apparently. Curious? Yes of course. But its been 40 odd years since I saw my dad. Far too long to be raking up old stuff.

That's exactly my view. If you're even thinking about it then there's some part of your curiosity that's been poked... I think go with your gut.

The bottom line is that they, nor you are responsible for your parents actions. Worst case scenario is that it goes tits up in which case you haven't lost anything and you can move on but at least you know. Best case you have additional family members who enrich your life.
