I live in block of flats where there is re 26 flats. Which I don't thing that it's too many and we almost know each for years but everyday I pass by almost of my 26 neighbours and no one says good morning or good afternoon to me. I tried a few times saying it first but 90% of the times no reply.

Is it me or people nowadays have no manners? Or maybe I leave in the worse block of flats. I been here for 10 years and I know we not family but come on we neighbours!!!

The only people that greet me and chat to me are the older ones.

I come from a culture that you even greet people on the street sometimes even though you don't know me.

Are people so self involved in their affairs that thwy dont care about anything around them once they leave their house?!?

Should try it on our street, neighbours come in and park themselves in the house, sup all our beer and invite themselves for tea (what you'd call 'dinner', and you'd be wrong lol). We all know each other by first name, all the kids play together and we arrange joint trips to the park, seaside etc.

I know my neighbours to say hello to.

But there is no way I'd want them knowing my personal life. Some of them are too friggin' nosy at it is

Different places, different ways. For instance, we're much more laid back here in Plymouth. But there will be rude and ignorant people anywhere you go, that's more human nature than geography.

Having lived in many different types of places, I'd say that large populations breed anonymity and by and large, small ones engender friendliness. People are rude, I think, not to acknowledge a greeting and that can be due to upbringing, culture or fear of opening one's self to the Great Unknown. It isn't personal, though

I think the whole of wales know each other or know mrs jones in number 9 who knows mr griffiths dog on the next village over!!

I love being welsh, here a stand 5 minute trip to the shop can take 2 hours coz you've met 3 different people on the way and stopped for a natter!

A lot of people prefer being distant from their neighbours as it's better than getting involved then having an argument.

Off the 5 other flats in our block I chat to one couple and that's it. Oh and one cople in tge neighbouring block because they've git cats and dogs and I always fuss them.

I don't see that sharing a postcode is a reason to talk to people

ive lived in and outside of london...i think people who are maybe more transient are maybe less friendly, but i dont think london is unfriendly at all....except on the tube...but as any londoner knows,its ok to smile and chat on a bus or train, but on a tube its completely unacceptable and frowned upon!

We only have 2 neighbours 1 is the boss where I work (not my boss) and the other is the gardener we all share a garden and speak every day its great

South West London / Surrey

We speak to quite a few of our neighbours and are on nodding/waving terms with some others that live further up.

At our old place we didn't speak to anyone but then we barely saw them.

I smile at people on the tube. Sometimes they smile back.

Keep smiling and saying hello. Eventually even the hardest people crack and will smile back.

Some won't ever crack though. Don't feel bad. Maybe they had a bad day or something. Concentrate on the nice ones that do say hello.

I try to treat people how I would like to be treated ? Old fashioned perhaps ? I even open doors for ladies.

And I always say hello to ladies especially.
