It won't matter what people say op if your not happy with your own body then it's up to you to do something about it . I was slim it's only now with the job and maybe my age that I've put on some weight . Be happy with what you have mate , you look fine to me

Increasing your waist size will not make you look more toned, adding bulk to your chest/shoulders and arms is probably a better bet.

To encourage muscle growth, you need to workout hard and eat plenty of protein. Chicken breast and meaty fish (like Salmon and Tuna) for example are good lean sources of protein.

Totally agree.

But I'm not sure he wants Muscle.Just a bigger waist size from what he has said that I can see.

Cal was right,I was wrong.

(I glance over things and just pick odd bits out)

Avoid weight gain Supps. If you really wanna get bigger you will have to work at it(even with roids unless you work out they are useless)

Cal will be better to answer here I think. He reads things better than me

Eating clean and working out daily, will make you bigger, toned.

Good luck

The key is the exercise, lift heavy weights and eat more protein and you'll build muscle. Ok, in reality it's not really "that" simple, but it's a good place to start.

Your exercises should be in small sets 5-8, and you should struggle to finish the third set. The (very simplified) theory is that training to failure (ie can't lift any more) creates the need for the muscles to grow.

You could do a lot worse than joining a proper gym, they will have staff who can create a specific program for you to achieve your goals and at the same time help you with technique so you don't injure yourself.

I was 28" waist and 10 stone for years, same as you worked on building sites etc, no matter how much I ate I couldn't seem to put an ounce on.

I worked with a lad who was about 17 stone of pure muscle, been a bodybuilder for years, he told me to put 6 raw eggs into a blender with a mix of whatever flavour ice cream and milk to make it up to a pint and whiz it in a blender and drink.

Be warned, extra protein can make you fart like crazy and I do mean fart like crazy. At one stage I was farting on average every 27 seconds (yes I counted and worked the average out), I literally stank the entire floor of a building site the size of half a football pitch out.

Anyway, taking those drinks coupled with stopping smoking I ballooned in weight. I got out of the training habit and ended up 15.5 stone and not in shape. Took me a few more years of running and more recently weight training to get to where I am now which isn't great but it's heading in the right direction.

I think you look fairly slim, not unhealthy though. I appreciate though that you have your body confidence issue, so I'd follow the advice above - eat more, regularly exercise with weights and listen to qualified people. Sounds like your diet isn't currently helping you to up your weight too.

You look just fine.

Why increase your waist ? It will do that on it's own soon.

Keep active and your body will take care of itself.

Seriously most if not all of the ripped blokes on here devote their lives to it. It's not easy to maintain and there's tons of lard just waiting to flab them up when they stop if they are not careful.

Just keep active.

As for your confidence - time and wisdom will bring you that x

I come from a long line of skinny gits. It's great unless you accidentally pop round to a friend's when he wants help moving a grand piano up a flight of stairs.

I agree with this, there is. Great bodybuilding forum website that will have all the details you will need, I'm not sure if I am allowed to post the name of the site though

no matter

Dont think its the waist to need to be concerned about.. You could however bulk up the chest and arms and legs. Go to a good gym and talk to a trainer get them to organise a program for you..

You could work on two things -

Your confidence or your body. It strikes me that it's confidence that's the real issue- if it was high, you would care less or not at all.

Your basal metabolic rate is high, due to your genetics and lifestyle. Consuming more than this and you'll gain weight - unless your body adjusts, to try to keep your weight stable. That would work against your goal.

Muscle is significantly heavier than fat, but consumes more calories for its maintenance. Did you consider what the 2 extra inches would be made of?

My first thoughts are that 2 inches is just an arbitrary number. I'd consider how you want your body to look overall - and then workout if it's just this change you want.

But the valuable change could come from improving your self confidence and esteem. You don't have to do only this, but it always seems a high cost, when someone is feeling less than they could about themselves.

I personally think your wife is right. You are fine as you are. It is your body though so obviously up to you to change it if you are not happy.

My husband is a similar build to you. He had a 28" waist in his 30s too. He has gained a few inches in his 40s without much effort at all (middle aged spread lol). I'm a complete fatty compared to him

Truth be told though, I fancied the arse off him when he had a 28" waist and still do now he has a 30" waist so I doubt the extra 2 inches make much difference anyway.

Just my 2p worth. X

bradford

from the male point of view

ive been the same size as you also from the building trade I weighed about 8 stone 5'9" classified as underweight for my body by docs my daughters the same

we can eat what we want when we want we just burn it off i had the same + extra food and I had the large flatcake filled with chips or salad though was a swine for the breakfast flatcake and 3 creamcakes a day.

I still do the same even now salad and a cream cake a day or 2 beefburgers and buns for afters

as we both worked on building sites you can lift more than most and i could lift and carry my ex with no problem

you are perfectly fine how you are and around 40 you will add some pounds and a waist size gain im still around 30"

my opinion stop worrying and enjoy life as you can do alot more than most in your desired job its done me no wrong

You sound similar to me. It probably won't happen mate if that is the way your body works.

I could eat all day and night and wouldn't put on a single pound.

Unless....... I stop smoking. I will then gain a stone, which will then stick to that weight.

So your top tip from good ole me is stop smoking.

Yeah I eat junk food and up to 2 pints of energy drink per day plus zero exercise. Still have a 28/30 waist. Some people just have small frames.

I have a 28" waist. I also have a very high metabolism. I find playing sports helps me keep trim and toned.

Get active, eat well and your body will react accordingly. Try planking for better core strength and muscle tone. Apart from that, you're ok. Nothing wrong with you.

I have a 29 inch waist

you need the correct balance of compound body excercises, protein and the correct mix of carbohydrates

No one on this forum can tell you what the correct balance is for YOU

You need to make your own research and UNDERSTAND how your body metabolises and reacts to mass training or , go to your local gym and find a person who is trained to find the correct balance for you

Bearing in mind you and your needs will change and your nutrition and excercise regime will need to evolve and adapt

Only you can learn how much training is enough or indeed too much
