I think I 'get' nearly everything in that I understand why the fetish might be appealing. Even when they're very deeply sublimated. What I don't get is when people weigh up the reality of the fetish and still consider it attractive.

But I guess that's the thing about fetishes - whatever they are, they're impulse-like and hard to reason cognitively. At the very least it's hard to be logical when there's that level of base attraction for something.

It's not possible to give consent to what amounts to assault, for example."

R v Brown is the most famous case under this. A group of people quite happily got off on pain, but it was deemed assault and so went through the courts and I believe one chap ended up in chokey.
