I made my daughter some wooden puzzle toys as a small child years ago, she still asks me to make new ones, she takes them into school seeing who can do them! And believe it or not there's 40 odd year 11s still trying to solve the last one lol

We struggled with our eldest when he got to 12

We bought him & a friend a driving lesson from Young Drivers - he's about to turn 14 & his reverse parallel parking is great!!!

This year I've arranged for him to drive a Lamborghini, a Ferrari & a 4x4.

Fun & doesn't full my house with useless crap!!!

I do enjoy buying for my young nephews though - little ones definitely more fun!!

My lads are difficult to buy for, my oldest son always remembers the time we spent together rather than anything I bought him, the comment about the glider is spot on, if you buy them a kite and spend time flying it with them, that`s priceless.

I don't give money to my adult children and insist that I buy them gifts and vice versa. The gifts are usually small so there are lots of them and I make up a hamper for each. I enjoy shopping and finding gifts which are often quirky or will add to their massive collections of geek chic. I still love watching them open them and the look on their faces on their birthdays/ Christmas morning.

Now that I am a grandmother to two adorable gerbils (my son does not want children so he gave his fiancé gerbils - Brennan and Dale) Christmas will be extra special this year.

Yes you can use any shape, cut into smaller shapes they usually require a push through piece to hold them together when finished.

I give the kids a homemade voucher for time with me. They get to choose what we do, up to the voucher limit, and we've had some really wonderful days out together. They rarely choose to share their days and they each choose a different kind of thing to do.

The best "made" present was a cardboard box car. I painted it, used plastic packaging to make the headlights, paper plates for the wheels and attached his old toy steering wheel and horn.
