There's local politics behind this decision that smell like smelly wellies!

Can't see how our roads are going to cope with Lord knows how many lorries trying to get into Manston!

I know that really it's the government's responsibility. But the hauliers are all screaming about how much money they're losing as a result. Surely they could put some of this money in a pot and come up with a half decent solution?!

I hear what you're both saying. But surely if they're losing so much money as things are currently. It to me seems to make sense in the long run?!

What about all the car owners who are so badly affected. We pay Road tax too, so why is that not relevant. We're paying for roads that are unusable due to this crisis too!

I'm not a haulier nor do I claim to know about the industry. But looking in from the outside its a basic yet common sense approach in my mind?!.

And in fairness the government changed the way Road tax was calculated. They pay no more than the rest of us based on the vehicles emissions.

My car is only 658cc but due to it having high emissions I pay £187 for 12 months Road fund. It's all proportionate and therefore fair. Isn't it?

But discussing Road tax is digressing from the op's question. Therefore it's not really relevant anyway!

That's why I said "I think they think they pay enough".

That said they pay way way more than you and I'm not sure the new rules apply to them either?.

You can't ask some guy who's running his wagon to fork out even more money to fix something that's essentially a government problem!

There's two solutions as far as I can see

Let them in

Send them home

You pays your money you have your vote, hold your mp accountable by letter or visit, I already have done.

Surely the problems lie on the other side of the water. The French must be responsible for what's happening in Calais, but most of the asylum seekers are not getting off boats in France. The other countries around Europe where the boats are landing also need to play a part.

I always thought the rules of asylum were that you could only seek asylum in the first "Safe Country" you reach.

I don't know a whole heap about the geography local to the M20 but I'd imagine that to relocate the amount of lorries that have to be held during the troubles would be pretty much impossible without causing disruption somewhere along the line.

If there was a ready made solution, it would have been implemented before now surely?

I'm just spitballing an idea but maybe try to hold them further out. Service areas around the M25 perhaps. Don't know how workable that would be.
