You'll be fine.

I've been to Egypt plenty of times. Just after the German tourists were killed north of Luxor, when the rioting was going on in Cairo and for most of the years the convoy system was in place between the red sea and Luxor.

Sharm is fantastic for diving/snorkelling - and lounging in the sun!

You'll have a great time.

It's not luck, it's hard work and a strict saving routine that's allowed us to go on holiday! We both work very hard for it.

LOL...we all feel like that after booking. If you get bored/ fancy a change book a 3-day trip to Sinai and go the Dahab - there's fabulous diving to be had there and a great Movenpick hotel to stay at that's relatively inexpensive....

Take US dollars for tipping rather than Egyptian pounds. They prefer them and it's not easy to get small LE notes.

Hotel bar staff (especially the ones at the pool!) don't change much - I used to slip them a decent tip on day one. Speedy, great service generally follows and you can then forget about tipping every time until the last day if you choose.

You can also use pound coins instead of dollars. Saves taking three currencies then.

I know. Then they come and see you before you go with a bag full of quids, asking if you'll change it for notes

Yep! And it's funny to see those that do.

Because as we all know - coins are far lighter than notes and will significantly reduce the weight in your pockets/luggage!

Sharm El Sheikh is *very* safe - you won't have any trouble there. It's surrounded by a ring of soldiers and steel.

In fact, as 'risky' as the rest of the country is, I was speaking to a retired vicar Anglican & his wife who traveled around Egypt for 2mnths without any problems.

Just don't go to the Sinai

Even so much as stopping in the street and you're hustled in to their shop

And never accept their tea

Once inside you're under the spell of masters of hard sell

And always haggle

No, I wasn't sure if kids were allowed, I wasn't too bothered about going in there anyway because it was bloody cold! My hotel took the kids ice skating to cool them down during the day

Buy a cheap underwater digital camera from the bay of E/Amazon for snorkelling - preferably one that takes videos too.

You'll get some great shots, you can pick one up for about £30 and it's a much better idea than one of those shit disposables they'll try and flog you - and no disappointment when you get back, have the film developed and they're all blurry/fuzzy.

You should still be able to see loads from the jetty. I got in the water at the end of the jetty with a snorkel and mask on, looked down it was beautiful, could see down at least 50-60ft x

That's how they lure you in. Saying it's disrespectful to refuse their hospitality. Then when you accept it, they go in for the hard sell.

Mind you I'm not complaining, I've grown rather fond of my 5 camels.
