Favourite opening album track

So what's a good track to open an album with?

I'm going with Let's Go Crazy, from Purple Rain.

From the opening 'dearly beloved', through the thumping funk/rock beat, odd lyrics, finally to the climatic squealing guitar solo, which finishes in a way that makes your ears go 'wow! it's gone really quiet!'.

Truly a great opening track.

Any other suggestions?

Bombtrack! Rage Against By The Machine, from Rage Against The Machine.

Or... Cherrybomb, by the Runaways from their self titled debut album.

Or Bat Out Of Hell, from... you don't need me to tell you that

It's no game - David Bowie, amazing guitar and screaming vocals, like he means it.

Plastic ono band

The opening track is the quite depressing but utterly heart wrenching track, mother.

Which was followed with hold on and I found out

Quite possibly the best album ever written

You don't get any better poetry than Floyd.

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time

Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines

Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way

The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say.

Sums me up perfectly

Mean Street from Van Halen's Fair Warning album is a stonking opener.

More recently White Trash Millionaire from Black Stone Cherry's album Between The Devil And Deep Blue Sea.

Hells bells from Ac/Dc's Back in Black is incredible.

The moment that bell rings the adrenaline starts pumping and its all the more potent because of the significance attached to the return after the death of Bon Scott.

What a tribute!!

"Breaking Into Heaven,

Stone Roses, Second Coming"

QUALITY!

(actually equally "I Wanna Be Adored" on the first album - I love how it builds!)

I also love the opening track on Kosheen's Resist album (Demonstrate). A short one, just setting everything up and then just dropping into Hide U.
