"Do they work?? "

I would say yes...

obviously it depends on how long the distance is and how often you meet up

but both parties have to be committed to it....if one loses interest then there is no point carrying on

I would say yes if the love and commitment is there and of course modern tech helps bridge the gap when you cant be together xxx

A long distance relationship would work for me, as long as o saw them most weeks or weekends. I like my own space so this would be ideal as long as there is trust and respect anything can work

I did it he was stationed in Germany and I flew out every other weekend and in the end I gave up my whole life here and moved to Germany where we got married and I lived there for 3 years

I think it could work if you genuinely liked each other. I like my own space so sounds like quite a good idea to me. Plus modern technology can help bridge the gap a little.

True plus love can bridge any distance xxx No rule to say you have to find someone in you own area xxx

If you're independent then they're probably good relationships to be in. If you need someone to be around 24 hrs a day, real life, then it's probably not gonna work.

Skype, and stuff like unlimited texts and calls, make it easy to have a LDR.

You'll probably want to make some plan for the relationship too, so that both parties have an idea what the relationship is and if they want the same as you.

It works for us. There's 400 miles in between us, we see each other every month for weekend and every 3 months for 10 days. It's not always easy but we've made it work for 8 years. Lack of sex can be difficult, but that's where FAB comes in handy!

Only in special circumstances, I think. Long distance is what gradually caused my first serious relationship to crumble.

"Do they work?? "

Course they can.

Mrs ddc & I used to live up to 6 hrs apart for 5 years. She used to come and see me at weekends, even though often I had to work most of them.

If it's strong enough, love conquers everything

Mr ddc

It wouldn't work for me if it looked like it would be forever. I'd want my man close enough to see a few times a week at least. Even once wouldn't be enough. I won't commit to anyone who wouldn't be able to give me that.

It depends on the relationship really. My best friend lives in Manchester. If the relationship is important then you make it work but that takes both of you.

Like any relationship there has to be trust and honesty and it has to be a 2 way street and not a one way street...I prefer relationships where there is not much distance now I have done the long distance thing...

My ex and I lived 350 miles apart, our relationship lasted a year and we're still great friends.

I know a few other couples who have been 250+ miles apart and it's worked out for them.

I think the most important thing is equal effort from both parties

Can see why he would moan then really. There are ways to travel even if you don't drive.

Not tried it and wouldn't want to. And yes I'm incredibly independent as been single for many years so realistically I couldn't live with someone either so close relationship probably wouldn't work either. Being on here is better for me

Depends what you're looking for really. I live just over an hour from one of my partners now, but for about a year I was three hours away. We see each other like, once a month, it's nice and it works for us.

Huddersfield - wigan, we made it work, 12mths we travelled, 12mths we saved... 10yrs later, where still together. own home, baby and married.

Anything will work, if you make it work. Its when you stop trying they fall apart, just like any other kind of relationship.

my opinion anyhow!!!!

Somewhere in North Norfolk

During my final year of university, in London, my boyfriend lived and worked close to Birmingham. The relationship survived it.

Had two over the years, neither worked out. One lasted 18 months (both traveled) and the other alittle over 2 years (just me doing the traveling). Will be sticking to local relationships, long distance does not work for me personally.
