"Apologies. I didn't mean to cause a problem but decided it was better not to post my private life. Sorry again." You're fine - emotional health is such an important aspect of our wellbeing, that I'd prefer to let you take the decisions you think are best. Look after yourself, whether the depression relates to you or others.

"Apologies. I didn't mean to cause a problem but decided it was better not to post my private life. Sorry again." There's nothing wrong in reaching out for support. Depression comes in many forms and you should contact your GP also as well as look for support from friends and family and you can get through this I have no doubt in that. Good luck

"Apologies. I didn't mean to cause a problem but decided it was better not to post my private life. Sorry again." The forums are pretty much all about our private lives one way or the other. Those that understand and have an experience of depression will not be upset at your post. You've done the hard part, reaching out. Please take the next step and speak to your GP. These days they are extremely good at helping and supporting people who suffer from depression. Good luck to you OP. I hope things improve for you.

"Since the op is gone can't comment exactly but do remember that medication gets worse before it gets better. In a marina you'll find antidepressants come with a big black box warning that they do significantly increase the risk of suicide so make sure you have support before starting a course of anti depressants " Plus coming off them can be difficult, been off mine for 2wks & I've had some really s**ty days since. Back on them soon according to gp

It should be a staged reduction in dose over the course of a few months not a "fuck it let's stop them and stick you back on if bad things happen". Your go should have written you a prescription for a lower dosage tablet so you can managed the reduction easily and gradually.

Xxxx " Some antidepressants have been recently proven to turn people with relatively mild disorders, psychotic!! Go to a doctor first then get an appointment to see a counselor/ psychotherapist & take it from there, OP - but always ask about side effects of whatever medication. Hopefully counseling is all you'll ever need. Good luck to you & keep your family & friends close to you! X

"Speaking as someone who suffered from depression for over a year, I hope some of my advice will be helpful to anyone who believes they're experiencing what Churchill called "the black dog". In my experience, depression is fought and defeated with three activities. Exercise to encourage endorphin release, reaching out to those close to you for support, and the reaching of goals, no matter how small. I started going to the gym because of my depression. I reached out to my friends, and they helped support me through days I was feeling particularly bad. And I'd always try to accomplish something with my day, no matter small, despite the overwhelming urge to lie in bed, or sit in front of TV, or drink. Over time, the depressive feelings just fade away. I am often scared they'll come back, but it's just a matter of keeping yourself active. " Wise words.

Some drugs were shown to be a help to some but severe negative to others. & some extremely addictive yet all 'approved' by medical councils at some stage! Drugs are the last resort imho.

"Thanks everyone, I really mean that and those that PM. I haven't answered messages but today has been a black dog day and I'll get passed it I know. I have started low dose antidepressants just to help see the wood for the trees in the short term. I am very aware of the issues in my life that are to the burden and unfortunately they are things that can't be changed but they way I deal with them will help me. Thanks again. Sam x " sending big hugs. Hopefully we'll all get there, just takes time. x

"One of the hardest things about depression is feeling a burden to those that love and care for you. When mine bites I feel guilty as well as depressed. One of things that I found difficult to do but helped in the end was to just keep a record of the good moments in each day. Sometimes it was just, I got up before 2pm today, and other times it was remembering that I laughed at something one of the kids did. At the end of each week I would read the good moments, when I was able to. For me the drugs work. They help me get some perspective and keep things feeling even. I'm not on any now but I have no hesitation about going back on them if I need to. I hope you find some good moments to lighten the load. " More wise words. I also suffered. Still do occasionally. 6 months off work, medication, weekly counselling and daily support through those 6 months from our local Cris team were a huge help. It's not a weekness to recognise that you're in need of some help, it's a strength and shows you're in a better place than you feel you are. Keep going OP, tiny steps.

The crisis teams are amazing arnt they. Sadly in most areas they're so underfunded they can barely provide a minimum service. They're a service that's easy to cut as no one likes to think he'll need MH treatment so they're happy for the NHS to cut it not realising 30% of people will need it at some point. We still have this mentality that MH issues are some how shameful something that should be swept under the rug and not disscussed

"first thing to know is your depression wont last. It will pass perhaps quicker than you imagine. Its just another mood and all moods pass. happy sad depressed or elated are all temporary. Its difficult to sit patiently with your self and with depression and let it be what it is. Theres a tendency to want to fight it, for it to go away or change which can be very tiring. Depressive thoughts can be scary and worrying. But they are only thoughts and you do not have to act on any of them. thoughts come and go. and thoughts are not "you". So in the midst of all the chaos just be kind to your self and realise all this will pass in time. go to bed, sleep. go for a walk, take a candle lit bath, talk to a friend you trust. Draw or paint how you feel write it down. There are many things you can do. You could talk to a doctor or call A&E thats what they are there for. sometimes people can feel reborn after a depression and decide to live a completely different life. You are a beautiful amazing creature remember that." Fantastic advice, all of it
