"You should be fine. For a shotgun licence the police have to prove that you would be a public danger if you had a shotgun. For a firearms licenceYOU have to prove you won't be a public danger. Entirely different kettle of fish. Happy shooting (but no lions!) N" Not many lions in Manchester, and I'm not a dentist

"I went clay pigeon shooting for my birthday a few months back. Really enjoyed myself so thought I'd get my own shotgun. I've filled out the form and sent it off. But it takes 12 weeks to process. They apparently really dig into your back ground, contact your doctor your referees and check for a past criminal record. I've always been a good boy (besides being a naughty swinger) has anyone else applied for a licence and had problems. Do we know if they look at people's on line activities " They do look at your online activity, Amy acquaintances etc etc . But if you have a place to shoot , eg a club , and a member and apply to conditions it should be ok . With the references its best to put a gun club member down as one , you would have already been checked out by police before you got membership, You can't get a gun just for the hell of it , though , you do need reasons own protection is not one neither is , I went shooting once and liked it I would not advertsie the fact you own a firearm though

"My uncle has black powder guns, was telling me you used to keep it in a box with a lid that didn't deal shut. Now it has to be kept in a metal container with a sealable lid, now if there's a house fire...... Not sure if he was having me on or bring serious " if there's a fire in anyone's house who stores weapons and ammunition etc i would sincerely hope that the last thing they would think about is to get the key to open the cabinet to get the contents out..

And the reason for getting it is that I like clay pigeon shooting. It's definitely not for self defence. I have good locks an alarm and a rather sturdy baseball bat for that

" The point he was making is that in a fire the black powder box was stored without a sealed lid, so could be picked up and thrown out of a window. Now that it's in a sealed metal box it effectively becomes a Bomb

As long as you don't keep your guns loaded I can't see a problem. An aerosol can would do more damage than loose black powder

"Granny I have no idea what your on about It's just a general post about something that's happening to me that's slightly interesting. Being a swinger is just incidental and I was curious as I'd read some where else that they look at social media to try and determine if your likely to be a nutter/have links with extremist groups/involved in crime. I wondered if they would look closely enough at me to figure out I rather like casual sex with lots of naughty ladies. " I know what you meant. You know what I meant. Swinging shouldn't stop you getting a licence.

"That's the point - loose lid = being able to disperse the powder out of a window easily Sealed box - not so dispersible" speak to your local fire station, they will give you the same advice and it will not involve what your thinking of.. i get where your coming from but believe me whilst it may sound like a plan in the event of a fire in the actuality its best to get out, then call 999 and stay out..

"a decent fireproof cabinet will dissipate the heat from its contents though, at least until it can be doused by the trained firemen Not sure it would create the bomb effect " It doesn't matter anyway no gun club nowhere to shoot Seems a dead duck to me ( pun intended)

I have good locks an alarm and a rather sturdy baseball bat for that " Applying for & obtaining a shot gun certificate is a reasonably easy procedure, your reasoning is fair and your biggest concern will be deciding which gun to go for when shooting clays as there are many on the market. References are essential and they will be checked comments like your baseball bat one will be frowned upon Hope you enjoy shooting the clays and if so, why not go one step further, join a target shooting club and apply for your firearms certificate shooting is a sport and also an Olympic sport but due to strick procedures on obtaining a firearms certificate less and less people are getting into it. Learning to handle your firearm in a safe manor is essential and police, although not up to speed with most firearms will monitor and ensure you know how to handle a firearm. happy shooting

"a decent fireproof cabinet will dissipate the heat from its contents though, at least until it can be doused by the trained firemen Not sure it would create the bomb effect " Despite what Hollywood might have you believe shotgun shells provide no excitement in a fire. They just melt. They do not discharge.

"the baseball bat comment was tongue in cheek tbf I won't be broaching the issue of self-defence at all in the interview. as for gaining a fire arms certificate, probably not I did a lot of range shooting in the forces with everything from machine guns up to a rocket luncher. i like clays, they move its interesting and its out in the country nothing like a morning stole and a bit of a shoot " Exactly why I do it, a nice morning outside doing something fun.

"I would love a decent .22 and some 30 round mags as I'd feel far more prepared when the zombie apocalypse comes." Nah that wouldn't have the stopping power, you need something that would do a lot of damage to stop a zombie. Unless you get it right in the head
