what do you all think?

is this the time to buy on a 2 year low or do you think it will continue to fall?

I am on the later and think it will continue to fall in price, infact it wont fall, it will plummet.

generaldixielee's investment tip

With Copper also falling, I feel this is the better investment, and there will shortly be development of copper keyboards, pc mouse, work-tops & shopping counters all made of copper

this is going to be the new thing, so if you have cash to invest go for copper

thought I would post here and see if interest, as some educated people on the forum

I've got silver - don't have the cash to put into gold, the premiums are too high unless you're buying at least an Oz

Silver is cheap to buy in bulk and there are ways to avoid VAT legally of course.

Silver has massive industrial use but it's the affordability why I started buying it, worth taking a bit of a chance since it peaked at almost £30 per Oz

Just to add

I take physical possession of the metal

Buying ETFs, mining stocks or holding "your gold" in a vault in Guernsey or Switzerland almost defeats the point of holding precious metal.

A lot of my clients are looking at beginning PR campaigns to encourage people to buy gold (as a consumer and investments), and advising against purchasing the other precious metals like platinum.

I don't think it's worth it though.

Anything can be done with advertising, just look at the de beers diamond campaign.

you need a good return for your savings and you simply don't get that just now within the banks due to low mortgage prices, which is great if you have a mortgage but not so good for savers

I still think copper kitchen work tops, key boards, computer mouses etc is going to be the next new thing and has already started in some countries

mostly focused at the middle classes and those who have concerns over health & cleanliness

think this will be the next gamble

With copper as an investment at around £5.50 per kilo at the moment.

In bullion form it's over £20 per kilo at .999 (retail price)

You'd need quite a lot of space to store a decent amount of it for it to be worth while.

Presuming you're being serious

Titz Towers, North Notts

I'm happy with my silver membership, but if gold membership works for others, then fair play.

you don't buy & store copper you buy shares

When microbes were exposed to copper surfaces, scientists have discovered that the killing of tens to hundreds to millions of bacteria cells within a few minutes. Surfaces can provide a passive defense against pathogens in the hospital, where infections are becoming more common in American killing 50,000 to 100,000 Americans and costing over $8 billion

that's why companies are now designing worktops, keyboards, door handles etc where bacteria collect using copper

again whats peoples view on gold, do you think it will continue to drop ? I think its going to slide

Copper shares - yes

Gold & silver shares - never

Thought you meant taking hold of it

I think gold & silver will drop a bit more but it's always the "safe haven" for investors so it will inevitably bounce back.

Central

I still think there's plenty of potential volatility in world markets, so gold will remain at somewhat above its proper level, as its a global fallback 'safer' investment.

If markets were to be stable, then gold has some way to slide. I can take gold or diamonds, as long as it looks pretty on me.

North West

I'm from a mixed race background (Chinese) who use a lot of gold for investment. When I married my husband my family sent us a dowry ( very old fashioned) of 5 oz of gold, they did the same with my Mother and father when they married. Gold will always have its ups and downs but can also always be traded for things if currency goes tits up ... With gold steadily dropping right now when my Dad goes to visit the family I'll be asking him to get me some more gold! Inevitably it will go back up in price

What about rare earths in general.

I am thinking of going back into trading and minerals / mining has always been a sector i am intefested in.

Because many shares are pennies it does meanthat the investment can be spread over a number of companies thereby spreading risk in this volatile sector

Most commodities are guff at the moment, wouldn't touch gold with a barge pole..that said I've taken a punt on Shell shares and Billton the the view they are probably somewhere near rock bottom.

That said the thought of having some gold bars knocking about is kind of cool haha

If you want penny shares that look good, take a look at dekeoil, I think they are a fookin bargain at the moment.
