Going on from a previous thread, what are your personal experiences of it from when you were a child or as a parent enforcing it?

As a child i remember starting to save up with a piggy bank by collecting pfennings id find, then as id get older a weekly 5D (deutchmarks) were awarded for good behaviour. I would spend mine pretty much instantly then look at my brother a few months later when he went toys r us and bought something proper.. i used to 'waste' mine

I didn't have to do anything for my pocket money. I helped my mum and dad because I wanted to. My own children didn't get weekly pocket money, they got dance and football/cricket fees paid and expensive costumes and kit. They didn't do what other children did and take money to the shop every day for sweets and none of them had a filling until they were in their 20s. My son helped me with shopping because he wanted to,my daughter helped with the housework because she wanted to. My eldest daughter did sod all but kept the younger ones occupied.

Horsham

Never had much pocket money, but every weekend we had a bag of sweets and a comic each.

We always had little things bought for us, usually for doing our chores. Things like aortic kits, a board game or something similar.

I had two paper round which got me £12 a week.

Also used to buy and sell football programmes. Bought them from a specialist website then sold them on eBay

I can't remember getting pocket money, I probably did though and probably wasted it like you Cute.

I know I wasn't spoilt rotten, but I never went without.

Birmingham - Selly oak

My dad used to just give me random money but I helped out all the time. We wasn't rich or well of. I used to wash up after Sunday dinner, vac the stairs, clean his car and just tidy the living room when I came back from school. He used to give me £10-20 on a Saturday xx

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

We were allowed to spend the ha'penny left over from our bus fare. The day the fares went up was terrible as that went. We were allowed a comic/magazine after Church on Sunday too. We had chores everyday from the age of five.

Earning my own money from 14 was fantastic and I was (am) a spendthrift.

No pocket money here, but I had a paper round and my mother would give me a bit of extra here and there. Still had jobs to do around the house, but they were just part of the week.

No pocket money, but I never went without (within reason). Big purchases were reserved to Christmas and birthdays. I did a paper round and got a weekend job at 15.

I think the being made to wait for stuff instead of just being given whatever I wanted has made me appreciate money more.

The land of grey peas and bacon

My mum and dad are far from poor but they wanted to teach us the value of money they both worked their bollocks off to have what they have today, my mum and dad are not wasteful with money but I am I've not really got anything to show for in what I spend apart from clothes and make up etc. I was an idiot when younger and got into debt and that has haunted me now into my mid thirties but I can say as of last year I am debt free

little house on the praire

First proper amount I used to get was 35p. But our comic came with the newspapers on a Thursday. Can't remember before that.

My son never had sweets so used to get a mini Lego set instead then £5.

When he turned 13 I said to him I will still give you £5 but anything more you have to earn it. By the end of the week he had 3 paper rounds
