Anyone else watching this on channel 5?

It's tragic - listening to him struggling to breathe is making me uncomfy! RIP

Why describe a certain BMI as "Morbidly Obese" and then care for the fat fuckers. Let morbidity take it's natural cause.

They have no-one to blame but themselves.

I've heard of a woman give her reason as being she has no ********* (technical term ive forgotten)in her body to tell her brain that she is overeating.

Couldn't a mirror have told her? Or the XXXXXXXXLLL label on her new jeans.

Sorry if you were having your supper.

what i find frustrating is that people are left to get that large before intervention.. surely there must be some kind of duty of care that tells health care professionals they need to act..

ultimately i know its down to the patient but food addiction is not something you can just go cold turkey on.

I think it's the general lack of human decency and empathy for which you are being called ignorant.

People get in that state for all kinds of reasons. Low self esteem, depression, grief, personality disorders...calling them 'fat fuckers' is just unnecessary.

"The thing is, they could have stopped this before they got to the size as anyone knows that large portions put the weight on, its not rocket science."

Newsflash: people aren't rational, and people suffer all kinds of horrible things (or just lack of basic education/guidance) that lead them into unhealthy lifestyle choices.

I really hate how quick people are to get on their high horse about overweight people. They're still people, and still deserve to be treated with kindness and respect.

its the "not rocket science" bit...its basically saying "your a stupid fat/thin idiot, eat more/less"..

I worked in mental health for 10years, some were young 12-18year old girls with eating disorders..a rocket science comment would have got me the sack...and I wouldnt have said it anyway......

I knew him yrs ago. Friends of my uncle, used to join us for a kick about in the park.

So won't be watching it, his mums death destroyed him. The people who continued to feed him, killed him.

trust me, telling someone its not rocket science-will make them think you think they are stupid-You might think its sounding like "its not as difficult as rocket science"..but it will never come across like that.

My main point is really, that some people have so many internal conflicts they dont see their outward appearance..even if it's damaging their health.Surely you have heard of some people who appear uber fit ie bodybuilders who will risk their health in pursuit of attaining their perfect image.

The mind is a wonderful and terrible thing..its harder than rocket science to work out, so I wouldnt be judgemental.

In the natural world only the fittest, strongest, smartest creatures get the opportunity to breed and reproduce, species evolve for the better. In western societies we have, as a species, become isolated from natural selection pressures, the result is as a species we have started down a route of devolution! Perhaps the cracks are already starting to show in the DNA that is responsible for mental toughness and mental stability...

Second programme in a week about massively over weight people. Think c5 need to hire new ideas people

It wouldn't be so bad if they were making programmes trying to help these people but they are just televised freak shows.

Well another poster said rocket science to wonder why you don't ask her to?

But I know its on both ends on the scales and as well yes bodybuilders do it to as they have extreme diets and that is not good in the long run either.

Probably not. The increasing occurrence of mental health problems in society is happening faster than genetics changes can account for.

Maybe we need a whole new approach to managing lifestyle induced illnesses. Rather than simply treating the symptoms we need to start with the root cause and reprogram people's minds.

Fat people are the last safe haven for those who get their kicks from putting people down.

I can write till my fingers bleed about various reasons for putting on weight, including simple greed but these people don't want to listen to reasoned debates, I've read enough bbw threads on here to realise that. They just want to sit in their ivory tower mocking people.

Those who have struggled orhave witnessed or even helped people that have struggled with weight and over eating issues know the reality of it.

As someone else said, would you just tell an anorexic to go eat a pizza? Or would you understand that they have issues with food and understand they need help to learn to address them? It is as unhealthy to eat yourself to 40 stone as it is to starve yourself to 4 stone yet there is little provision for the former to help identify and deal with their issues.

Why does it seem super extremes of 40 stone or 4 stone before intervention take place? In my book you should get sectioned under the mental health act if you go over 20 stone or below 6. Both these weights should be extreme enough to trigger confinement and mental health treatment.

Rocket science is easy compared to sorting mental health issues. We're just way too use to treating people on mass via prescriptions. One reason I think that social and emotional health is a subject worth teaching in schools.

the key word is society and the stresses that come with it..the more and more people there are,the more problems you will see...just maths really.

I was hoping to point out evolution doesn't happen for progression..its just adaptability to environments.Millions of species stay exactly the way they are..and will do for millions of years..You've made out evolution has some kind of upward arrow to a pre-determined fate...

I don't think sectioning is quite necessary but I do think that more should be done to help change people's relationship with food at an earlier point.
