We all know that the word 'Gay' used to have a different connotation but did you know.....

'Nice' used to mean sliver or thin or narrow. People could have a nice escape and requested a nice piece of cake......the latter morphing the word into its new meaning.

'Rude' used to mean unfinished. A wooden bench that hadn't been sanded was said to be a rude bench. Unfinished became unrefined which then became undesirable and offensive.

I found it interesting....thought you might too

Rude still gets used in that context by many a Journeymen.....

At school we were encouraged not to use the word nice in reference to another person.

The reason given was nice indicated a person of loose virtue / prostitute....

The example given to us in song......

i.e. All the nice girls love a sailor....

You're welcome....
