It doesn't. Except for cake but just ignore that for a minute.

You've just programmed yourself to like tasteless, crap food that is pumped full of flavourings (sugar is also a flavouring coz it has no nutritional value so isn't a food).

It's innate to enjoy high fat foods as many animals will prefer to eat things like grubs and larvae etc if they are available. It's high yield energy at the end of the day. Trouble is its too readily available now and that's where the problem lies.

In nature these high yield foods are seasonal. Brown bears will only eat the brains and eggs of salmon caught during the spawning season because they give the best ratio of energy to effort to allow them to put on weight to see them through their hibernation etc. I know we are not bears but deep down we are animals (some not so deep down lol) and our programming is still the same.

All of the above; fat, sugar, flavourings, flavour enhancers.

You can, probably, make almost anything taste great but, nutritionally, it may not be beneficial.

Food manufacturers don't give a stuff about your health; poor quality protein, bulking agents, sugar, fat and chemicals are cheap.

That's makes for huge profits.
