Sounds like the rescue partition is corrupt, I had it with one of mine. Because I had the PC World insurance they were able to supply me with rescue disks.

If your MBR ( master boot record ) has become corrupted none of above methods will work, you will need to do a clean install using a windows disc.

Unfortunately most new PC's dont come with a disc ( recovery built in ) so i would take it back to PC world

"Nope none with pc"

Ok then you are a bit screwed lol, you can repair the MBR via the repair disc ( complicated and long winded )

It definitely sounds to me like your MBR is corrupt ( windows will not start at all without this )

Either get a PC expert in or take it back to PC world

Do you still have any of the original documentation, especially with the windows key?

If you do, blag/borrow a disc for the same version of windows from someone, insert that into the dvd tray as you try to start windows ( you may have to restart the pc for it to pick up the dvd), see if it starts as far as a repair screen and then watch for the chance to add the correct windows key.

You may need to use F8 to get into setup and force it to read the DVD drive before it reads the hard drive.

As a side note if you have important data you dont want to lose on the hard drive, buy another hard drive to do your new windows install on.

You can then attach the old hard drive and recover your data

1)) unplug then put ur windows disc into cd tray.

2) plug in + switch on

3) if it boots from cd- all good.

4)if it doesn't, you need to try same trick but change your bios to boot from cd.

To change your bios

1) switch on PC

2) when dots start running across your screen -press F8 button to take you into start up options,

3) from start up options, change boot sequence to boot from cd first.

4) restart PC

if you want anything saved as you may have to format and reinstall then use a windows live disc

as you can back up your files with the windows live disc

Ok so you hit F8 and did it bring up a screen with various 'command' options - one of which would say something like 'start up sequence'

Or 'bios settings '?

Bios means basic input output system- allowing you to change where the computer reads it's start up files

You can try " last known good configuration " but its unlikely to work as i said i think your MBR is corrupt.

F12 should take you to boot menu then select your dvd drive ( make sure the win cd is in )

you should then get a black screen with " hit any key to boot from cd/dvd " hit any key and sit back Follow any on screen instructions

"Says windows failed to start sofeware change miit be the cause."

Ok, so if your mbr is corrupt, as Jamie says- see if you can find boot options using the F12 button.

So, again, unplug, plug in + when you get dots running across the screen hit f12 this time and let us know what options you get

its best to go by others have said not just on this thread

even your hard ware hard drive could have failed

http://www.fabswingers.com/forum/lounge/405141

choice of cds here

either go for windows live disc this you can save stuff thats on the pc before any messing around format or anything else

go for windows 7 repair disc thats for repairs and repairing master boot record ( MBR )

otherwise its a wipe and reinstall of the system if the hard drive has not failed

So pretty much the last thing we can do, now, with this disk - is to try safe mode.

So, do the F8 again and this time choose 'Safe Mode' - let us know what happens.

hopefully it brings up your login screen

Yeah windows is clearly fekked, but if we can get to the bios we can fix that.

So last desperate attempt;

-unplug

-F8

-safe mode with command prompt

Then, once you press return on that option - immediately do the CTRL+ALT+F3. All 3 buttons same time!

Like be really fast - if that doesn't bring up bios, it's dead and you will have to follow the replace disk comments

so is ubcd ultimate boot cd

same with bart pe

but most dont use floppys anymore as we use the usb most of the time on newer pcs or you have to use the dvd drive instead

It's a Lenovo 500 yeah?

According to the online documentation, the bios can usually be reached through F12 or F1 on this model.

But it depends on the kind of shutdown the Lenovo performed- apparently the bios can be 'hidden away'.

Well, I would try the F1, if it was mine.

Ok, so we've tried F1,F8, F12 and no bios options.

Nor dos mode.

So we can't change input to read from your cd/DVD.

you may be lucky and the disk is still ok, could be a SCSI (pronounced scuzzy) or something.

if it was me, I'd now try to get the disk out of the laptop and try read it using some external device, to try save your data. But hardware wise, it could be several things.

Maybe I'd take it back to shop and say, you can't even access BIOS.

Guess they'll just say it's out of warranty?

Seems like all you can really do now is try get the disk out safely- it's not that difficult with a screwdriver

Not going back up but so this may have been said, bios is normally f2 or delete, press them repeatedly on boot up,

If it's a desktop, open the case and pop out the round battery, disconnected power cable and wait 10min, put battery back and reconnect power cable, there is a jumper to reset bios but easier to pull battery

Good thing, it will reset your bios and ask you to load defaults or enter bios on boot,

Bad be aware it will reset your bios, could Activate\disable some stuff u want

This is pointless if laptop, not worth strip down
