"Im thinking about replacing my very old sat nav and maybe getting the Tom Tom IQ one. Has anyone got one of these?. What is the new lane guidance feature like?. " They are ok but most of them are these days. Non are perfect but it depends what you want to be honest. Sometimes its better though to pay less and subscribe to all the updates.

"TomTom are shite, their customer support is appalling. Once they have your money, they couldn't give a flying fuck about yyou or your product. Garmin, on the other hand, brilliant. Do some research online, you'll see I'm not alone in dismissing TomTom, they are infamous for being a shower of twats. " I disagree we were going to order 30 garmin units for work but after a month trailing a couple a ended up cancelling as they were poor and would have ended up costing us lost man hours. They are cheep but just don't do the job adequately.

I dont use one often though, mostly still use a map." Don't get me wrong they all do a job but Garmin are cheaper, they often have older map data and don't always send you the quickest route. I live by my sat nav, do from 50 - 100k a year and tried all the units. Even the manufacturers one fitted isn't perfect but it has plus points. The Garmin unit will get you there granted but not always the most efficient way.

I'm sure Garmin and TomTom are both pretty similar in quality and performance, it's just that to get in touch with TomTom you have to call Holland, blah blah. Trying to synch their units up by plugging them into your pc is doomed to failure. At least Garmin are in the UK and don't just try to wriggle out of their responsibilities. I bought a new 1490, it froze after a couple of days. I rang and kicked up, I had a new unit the very next day, I hadn't even returned the fucked one, they trusted me because I needed it for my trip to Europe. Top service. When I had a PDA and bought TomTom's software to put on it, it fucked up before it even finished installing. TomTom's attitude was "you must have done something for it to fuck up, you'll have to buy a new one". Yeah, another £75, fuck you, I got a cracked app from PirateBay for free. Shame when I had a perfectly legit, paid-for copy that TT didn't want to help me get up and running, shower of cunts!

It kind of says a lot. As for TomTom's support, well there is a UK number it just like many companies these days moves its 24hr support round the globe. Personally we haven't had a problem with the so called how do you put it...shower of cunts!

" This was a few years ago, I bought a TomTom GPS receiver and their Navigator software DVD, not just a PDA app. The irony is that I prefer the TomTom interface to the Garmin (when I got it working thanks to PirateBay, yay!), and came within an inch of buying one of their XXL units earlier this year. Luckily I read the reams of dissatisfied customer reviews, remembered how pissed off I had been with getting fucked over by them, and went for the Garmin 1490 instead. The OP should look on PocketGPSWorld.com, GPS-data-team.com and gpsfiledepot.com, go to the forums and read the user experiences and recommendations. TomTom's customer support is legendary, and for all the wrong reasons! If you've not had any problems, good for you, my cracked copy of TT Navigator served me really well without a hitch, it's only when things go tits up that you find out how good any of these companies really are.

" Never had a prob with either customer services to be honest. As you said you had to phone Holland i can only think it might have been better to call the zero eight four five UK one. But you take as you find as we all do. I just speak from having the task of sorting out everyone satnav for work over the last few years.
