I worked there for three months, a lovely city if not a little violent (worked in Barcelona stayed in Calella).

Lovely people in Barceloneta. The zoo is good. Beach bar used to have pornos on the big screen at 7am lol

It's a beautiful city. Loads to do. The big red bus is great for getting around and you can get on and off as much as you like.

You really should go check out The house that Gaudi built, I think it was called 'la Perdera'. Gorgeous!

Best advice is watch your valuables the city is rife with pickpockets.

The Gaudi museum and park, take the cable car and go to the old traditional village on the Montjuic and see the dancing fountains at the bottom on your way down. The Camp Nou is a must if you have the slightest interest in football. It blows away every stadium ever built.

Lovely place defiantly check out the Gaudi stuff!

But ignore all eye contact with beggars and shifty types as bad as it sounds it's more trouble than it is worth

Renting bikes and riding down the sea front is also a good shout but not when it is too hot!

The Sagarda Familia as yet unfinished cathedral by Gaudi is mind blowing! There is also a nudist beach

The Gaudi cathedral won't be finished for another 30 years or so. Breathtaking views from the spires and check out the carving on the outside at the back.

The Ramblas is a tourist trap, great to walk down but if you going to eat or drink anything it's better value in the side streets

Looks like you're right about the sagrada- should've paid more attention!

Also Las ramblas is a thieves paradise- but it's right next to the gothic quarter which is the best part of the city.

Also got the Picasso museum, the beach, the boys from Brazil near the footy stadium, plaza real, El Cortes ingles, seafood bars, etc.

Also saw my first rave there in the 80s, fuck what a city

Museum of erotica is located on the rambles about half way down Left had side facing the color.

That's quite fun.

There is also a nudist beach mar Bella. Located 1/2 mile past the Olympic port. Best metro station is poblenou.

I'm going to be in Barcelona myself on the 3rd August

If you like art try the Joan Miro museum, I would give the Picasso museum a swerve, not very inspiring but there is a Banksy in the square a couple of hundred yards from there.

The Casa Mila is the Guadi museum.

Parc guell is the Guadi inspired park, you can get a bus there from the Ramblas.

If you want to go to Parc quell or the segrada familia you actually have to book your tickets the day before. You just can't turn up and expect admission. It's at least a 4 hour Queue

A Galaxy Far, Far Away & Spain

Walk along Las Ramblas, pick up the Tourist Bus ticket, jump on & off to see the Guadi Church, the garden/park, see the Nou Camp, take the cable car up to see the Olympic Swimming Pool, enjoy the view over the city & take it back down to the harbour, then walk back up Las Ramblas. Great city. You should love it.

Derbyshire

There are 7 main Gaudi sites, plus the Palau de la Musica Catalonia and the Hospital de la Santa Creu I Sant Pau on our list (all world heritage sites) in addition to Barri Gotic and the Cascada Monumental.

If we can lose the kids we'll check out the erotic museum for a giggle.

(Just planned the Barcelona leg of our trip yesteday, currently working on Florence )

Must have been a bad time of year or something but I went with my ex-wife a few years ago and we hated it, people are the rudest i have ever come across, went to a restaurant there and the waiter just about threw our food at us, went to a few shops and I guess the art of customer service isn't something high on the list!! The city architecture is something to behold but the Gaudi building is a building that will never be finished!!

If I can say one thing about the city that's positive... Our hotel told us to stay away from the little side alleys as that's where the real pick pockets so their worse but we found this as one part of the city where the Catalonians actually showed us some respect!!!

Always good to get a different opinion I'm sure!!

It changed a bit once the mob discovered barca. So now you get the stag dos going there + the attendant lowering of the tone.

Las ramblas had always had a problem with thieving, and yeah it extended to surrounding areas.

But I've been going there for almost 30 years and it's still a great city -better than Madrid. Now that city really is rude

Central

Gaudi's buildings, Parc Guell is fantastic for a few hours. Montjuic, a mountain there has fabulous art galleries and visit the Joan Miro museum - check his work before you go. Sitges is nearby, a beach town by train.

Obviously watch for pickpockets and scam artists.

Maybe bring a plant home, such as a Bird of Paradise, which are cheaper there and a good memento - not frost hardy.

Loads of stuff to do. Also museum of Catalonian art came to mind too.
