The tubs are in a sunny spot and we've had plenty of rain so that's probs why they've done so well.

If you have a bed that fits that description strawberry plants will just keep coming back for years. The advantage of the tubs is that it's harder for slugs to get them - that's why people put straw around them (hence the name) to deter slugs and keep the fruit off the ground.

The only produce I grow, at the mo, are herbs and wild strawberries in an old Belfast sink next to the bbq. The intention is that I can add to anything I cook ( have another sink in the other side, which I full with ice, beer and wine ).

i have used a product which is basically tiny little nemotodes who eat the snails and slugs, they are present in the soil naturally but this is just a way of tipping the balance..

Peace baby was meant as a general term from the 60s, calm down. Lilies are a good example of garlic spray, I think they were the first plants it was used on, leave some broken cloves soaking in some water, then sieve into the spray bottle, remember to spray after rain, works a treat.

I don't do gardening!

When I landscaped my garden last year, I designed it specifically as a low maintenance garden.

I don't have ANY pot plants for a very, very good reason. They don't last long.

I either over-water them or don't water them enough.

I've got apples and cherries growing in mine. Also lavender but i don't do anything with that. My dog, guinea pigs and rats are buried in it as well.

My soil is sandy and very wet, so bushes and trees do well in it. Most flowers have died. I've mainly got bushes all around the edge, with trees interspersed in there too. I'm keeping the trees small. Letting the bushes grow wild.

I need a gardener...

We've currently got loads of herbs and vegetables growing in ours. I'm experimenting to see if I can feed two vegetarians with just a small container garden (and staples from the shops). It's an interesting experiment I think.

Yesterday I got a small poly walk-in greenhouse and I'm planning in the autumn to construct some hanging guttering inside to grow strawberries in.

Central

I grow for wildlife and my own enjoyment. Plenty of wild flowers, something flowering at every point of the year, as well as for insects, birds, aquatic species and other wildlife.

My plants include the seemingly exotic. I have Bird of Paradise plants, various palm tree varieties and plants that evoke the jungle feel. Bees and butterflies love it here, and a summer evening always has a gorgeous scent in the air. My honeysuckles are pervasive and their scents are mixed with other flower scents, depending on the month.

I also like simple plants, so some sweet peas, which also have a captivating scent, are great too.

For food, I'll grow tomatoes, peppers and herbs mainly, as well as strawberries for dessert.

"Are you a flower beds gardener, or fruit, veg and herbs, or a wildlife gardener, or a mixture of them all like me. Zen garden anyone? I have five gardens in various locations so a lot of space to fillI,d like to know what strips the leaves of runner beans ? only attacks at night."

Slugs and snails love runner bean leaves, so look out for their slime trails. If it's these, you could potentially provide some barrier, that would prevent them getting to the plants.

"I grow for wildlife and my own enjoyment.

Rarely see or hear them here either, loads of Collared Doves and Chaffinches, we have Pipistrelle Bats, I put a raised bed of night scented flowers on the shed roof and they fly over it feeding on Moths and gnats.

A bloke on the allotments has never lost a chicken to foxes, and everyone else has, they want to kill the fox, he tries to explain why he doesn't lose chickens, but they don't want to know, everytime they kill a fox we suddenly get over run with Rats, Mice and Voles, and they moan about them. What is it that prevents some people from seeing sense?

I was reading the book by andrew marrs, Looking at britain from up above some Wonderful photo,s and it showed the White cliffs of dover and how this region developed from acient seabeds and how profound the chalk deposits were and the lay out of the land there Can,t be much fun being a gardener there sometimes, saying that does kent still have many orchards for fruit growing apple trees etc? must be a certain amount of soil there.

My folks had chickens let them roam, there was no red foxs to take them then like there Is now, but saying that we got brown rats instead so yes haveing a fox keeps vermin down, I don,t mind shrews, field voles, or harvest mice I have seen all these in the garden and Indoors before in the past but of course they belong outside and thats where i prefer them to be mostly.

You can't 'get' them, you have to attract one to your garden. Start by cutting some notches in your fence that a hedgehog will fit though, and make sure you put out food that the hedgehog will like. Eventually you might get one that passes through your garden on it's nightly patrol.

Went out into the garden this morning and the whole place seems to have grown two inches overnight. :D The butternut squash and pumpkin vines have turned into triffids overnight and there are several courgettes that I'm going to pick this evening to make into quick pickles to top burgers during the week.

I planted a type of tomato called sweet pea currant this year too, which has formed the most beautiful, tiny, perfect little trusses of green fruit. Now just to hope my runner beans come through in the next couple of days... I want my bean curry!

This july I tried to video a hedgehog in my garden but it was just a bit to dark to see properly, 10 or more minutes later I could hear the hedgehog chomping away on slugs or snails behind my tiger Lilys and just a bit of movement from moveing plants etc location wise as Someone said earlier I hope they can detect and clear as many of the slime Trailing critters as possible.. Last year when it was light two hedgehogs were mateing I can understand where they get their name From now listening to them at the time Did,nt think of videoing them a real Wasted opportunity, hopefully one or two offspring were born which will benefit the garden in later times.

Never been one for gardening until last year. I built a raised flower bed with breeze blocks, rendered & painted. It's now full of various flowers. Just recently I've built a decking & also used the remains of the wood & an old under counter fridge to build a garden cooler, it's great when filled with ice.

I've now built a herb garden out of a pallet & its mounted on the wall. I have two different chilli plants, basil, Rosemary, sage & parsley all growing very well.
