I've never seen the point of someone from say Scotland messaging me as with the distance we are unlikely to meet

Am I missing something?

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I got one from the US yesterday. 4,000 miles away. To be fair he was complimenting my pic, but I do wonder why others who are the other end of the country message me for a meet. My profile states quite clearly why I prefer local meets.

I wonder, do you think they didn't read my profile?

Travelling…

Just thought I'd a different angle on this one...

I do totally understand where distance can mean no chance of a meet and a waste of time.

However, I travel world wide with my work, and with the UK being such a small island, realistically getting from one end to the other isn't too difficult. I think it's more to do with whether the person messaging the other has the real desire and means to do so.... Or just a pic collector.

I've had people from miles away message me and it has eventually ended up in a meet when they or I have been travelling.

Only about 5% of cases though

Central

A lot of people travel a fair amount, so a few hundred miles may be nothing to them. It's helpful if they state that in a message, so you realise you're not wasting your time.

I get to Scotland once a year or so, but it's a vast country. Newcastle, London and Manchester frequently: though Newcastle is further, and it would seem like I'm not a potential partner for those there. When I'm away, some company with locals is a great way to spend spare time. But, for those looking for very frequent regular meets, it's less appropriate.

I'm quite selective, those on my friends list are people I'm interested in meeting that I chat with.

Majority live 100+ miles away and its my intention to travel when we are available.

If I'm free and can afford it and a hotel I'm happy to do so

I can understand if they are people you regularly chat to & have a meet planned but a random message from someone miles away.

What's the point?

I suppose every regular chat and planned meet starts from a random message.

I get a lot of guys from down south messaging. I wouldn't expect anyone to travel hundreds of miles to meet me.

If I am travelling anyway, or they are, I have no problem with messages. Meets have been arranged. But a message on spec from someone you know won't be anywhere nearby is just pointless. I just tell them if they ever visit York to get in touch. I never hear from them again.

Guy's have offered to travel to Lincoln just for a drink, some have followed through, I feel bad about it but if they choose to do so I'm flattered

True!! A message from someone miles away that tells me they travel a lot for work & will be in my area on X dates & would I like to meet for a coffee is all good. But not many say that

If this happens with me I point out the distance and that I don't travel then it's up to them to decide if they think I'm worth travelling for...

We have met a few guys from Scotland who messaged us . This occurred as they travel with work and from making initial contact they later messaged when nearer for a meet

Is it all about meeting though ?

Plenty of messages I send and receive are just conversations with people I'm not likely to meet, but just enjoy banter with
