Like bacon?

Apparently a strain of sea has been discovered that tastes exactly like bacon once it's fried and has twice the nutritional value of kale.

"The miracle sea is a fast-growing strain of red marine algae called dulse (Palmaria sp.), which grows wild along the Atlantic and Pacific coastlines and looks a lot like translucent red lettuce."

"Scientists already knew that it was packed with antioxidants and vitamins, and contains up to 16 percent protein in dry weight, but usually it's harvested and sold dry as a cooking ingredient or nutritional supplement in Europe. But over the past 15 years, scientists at Oregon State University in the US have created a new strain that can be farmed, and they've found that it also has some unique taste benefits."

I'd link the article but I'd probably get a slap on the wrist.

Being a vegetarian this sounds great , probably very low or devoid of saturated fat , so sounds good to us

There is a difference between not liking the taste and not wanting to eat it.

Does the fact that something tastes or has the texture of meat mean that a vegetarian shouldn't enjoy it ?

I have been a lifelong vegetarian , and enjoy a vegeburger as much as a carnivore enjoys theirs . It doesn't mean I yearn to eat meat, I just like it .

And since my choice not to eat meat is purely for compassionate reasons , there's no reason as I see it why I shouldn't enjoy plant based meat alternatives

but veggieburgers dont taste of beef, they are just round patties of vegetables.

it just intrigues me, that's all. Also, if you are a life long veggie how do you know what bacon tastes like? i could feed you the strangest tasting thing and tell you it tastes like chicken and you would never know lol

Realeat , tivall , supermarket own brand , quorn , all make plant based protein versions of meat . And whilst I accept you could feed me anything and say it tastes of meat without me knowing if that's the case , if it's veggie and I like it , I'll eat it and enjoy it

I was an omnivore until about three years ago. I read 'Eating Animals' by Jonathan Foer after listening to a song called (of all things) "Human Eyeballs On Toast" and realised I could not justify it any longer, both for the environmental and compassionate reasons.

I know what meat tastes like and yeah, bacon tastes good. Even the best fake bacon (or "facon" as it's known in my house) isn't a patch on it so I'd be more than happy to eat something that tasted as good and was good for you as well.
