When the pictures were taken Hitler had only been in power a short time and no one knew what was to come.

The fact The Sun has chosen to print these pictures and story proves they're just a bunch of sensationalists desperate for a story.

Its clear Edward was a keen supporter of national socialism particularly the type Hitler and his cohorts purveyed. I am a republican and would be the first to say the concept of royalty is franking insulting but the Sun is the sun and its sole objective is to make Rupert the bear a lot richer!

In 1933 Hitler hadn't even become Fuhrer (1934) - nobody could have foreseen the things to come.

It is a piece of footage of its time, nothing more - and as historians commonly state - thousands of people would have done the same thing at that time either in jest or simply not realising the significance it would have in years to come.

Prince Michael married the daughter of Baron Gunther von Reibnitz, a Nazi Party member and an honorary member of the SS.Elizabeth married Prince Philip. He came from a pro-fascist family. His brother-in-law, Prince Christoph of Hesse was a member of the SS. In fact, Elizabeth’s marriage to Philip caused problems and the government refused permission for several of his relatives to enter Britain and attend the wedding.

You do know the British used concentration camps long before this, don't you? With the hindsight of history you can see where things could head. In 1933 I don't believe many believed the stories those pesky Jews were telling. Europe and anti-semitism has a long history.

You know who invented concentration camps don't you?

The Americans - originally for use to detain native Indians and then for use in the civil war. Followed by the Spanish in Cuba in the late 1800's. And then the early 1900's by the good old UK in South Africa where 30 odd thousand died, including women and children.

In 1933 the Gestapo were nothing more than the German Secret Police - every country had a similar organisation.

The majority of the worlds population has no idea what the Nazi party were intending in 1933. If they had I suspect there may have been an earlier start to WW2.

But hey. If tabloid crap such as this gives you the ammunition you feel necessary to have a rant and a bitch at the monarchy - go ahead.

I suspect most people with an ounce of common sense will see it for what it is.

It's not rocket science.

If it hadn't been for the war I too probably wouldn't have been born. My fathers family are displaced Poles, had they bit been displaced it's highly unlikely that my father would have met my mother (who's Irish) at a cinema in Leicester.

The provision, supply and distribution of gas to fire western European cities comes from Russia. That is why the EU let them annexe the Crimea! If you are talking about the kit to turn it into usable power most gas turbines are made in China.

As for German Sheppard dogs and paternity rights I will leave that with you!

my grandad was serving in the army , he wanted to write to someone , so a lad he was serving with put him in touch with his cousin who was my gran , my grandad was from Dublin my gran from Birmingham

If it hadn't been for the war I too probably wouldn't have been born. My fathers family are displaced Poles, had they bit been displaced it's highly unlikely that my father would have met my mother (who's Irish) at a cinema in Leicester."

I am as anti royal family as anyone as they are a drain on public finances yes they bring money in so keep say queen and or king jettison the rest into real world.

Its common knowledge they are foreigners if you go back far enough but she was a child at time and should not even be a news story in my _iew.

Thankfully an American divorcee came to this nations rescue and again thankfully Eddy the 8th let his heart (dick) rule his brain and he was banished to the West Indies to think about his twisted _iew of the world. As I say I am a committed republican but I have read the (unauthorised) biography of George 6th. He seemed to be a very sensitive and caring man and had many a run in with Churchill on civil liberties particularly the way Churchill acted in the general strike. So well done Mrs Simpson for bedding Eddy and please all fabbers I implore you to boycott Dogs on the Dole!

Here we go again! Tourists come to this country to experience the heritage and the spectacular historical sights. If the Queen and Phil the greek et al were to meet them all personally I would agree that they maybe worth the £30 odd million they cost! Actually, as many foreigners might not like admitting, a lot of them have an interest in the British royals that would make event the most ardent royalist appear republican. Whilst yes we do have lovely buildings and great heritage a lot of tourists see this as being underpinned by a living and breathing monarchy.

But what do I know, if the OP considers the queen a foreigner then I an even more so.

It only appears shocking because QEII is still alive. But the fact of the matter is that the photograph was taken in the early 1930s, and no one knew what was to come. German rearmament, let alone war, was only in its infancy. Hitler had only just become Chancellor.

What's more, at the time, there was a great deal of sympathy for the German people, who had endured over ten years of hardship under the onerous provisions of the Treaty of Versailles. For many people, even those watching from overseas, Hitler was seen as a beacon of hope for the German people.

Add the fact that the British royal family has Germanic roots, and that QEII was a child at the time, and it becomes clear that this story really isn't news.

Cos it's obviously a Nazi salute with a mocking sentiment - a lot of people have done it, a very low percentage of those are actual Nazis. Just like how The Great Dictator was satire and not Chaplin outing himself either.

again you make the mistake of focusing on the wrong thing. i already covered your identical post earlier.

children copy adults. however you have the queen mum gladly doing a nazi salute and encouraging the queen to do like wise. the king then joins in. the queen mum and king should know better. given that it is on record the king was a nazi sympathiser and this fact is well documented i would say there is nothing daft about the post at all.

I didn't know why we were told not to or even where we had seen it first. Later, at school, I learnt why the salute was banned

I know that 'German-bashing' is alive and kicking but there is something which some people tend to overlook. A lot of Germans were frightened of the Nazis too. Many paid with their lives

My great-uncle was executed in the village centre by the Nazis. He was made to kneel and was shot in the back of the head. He was guilty of hiding two Jewish men in his house for a while and then giving them enough food so that they could make their way over the Dutch border

20 years ago, the grand-daughters of those families traced my family in Germany. My great-uncle had ofcourse been dead for decades and their grandfathers had died many years earlier. They invited my aunt and myself for an all-expense paid trip to the US to say "thank you"

I hadn't done anything to deserve a "thank you" just as I haven't done anything which harmed many other millions of people in Germany in the past

We are not all all bad and it wasn't the salute which killed all those people; just saying
