"We are a damaged collective. Many couples on here will seperate. Many singles are the products of separation. We walk a fine line. We attempt outwardly normative behaviour, while abandoning our instincts to protect and safeguard. We would be healthier mentally by acknowledging this. Pervert is not a term of endearment. Rather a signifier of the sexually obsessed. Di you see yourself ? " I'm not sexually obsessed and wouldn't want to be. You have no respect for yourself or others if you are, in my opinion. I'm not a pervert either. Yes I like to look at pictures, but it's not my priority.

"Some singles have met and become couples here. Many couples are very happy together. Many singles are very happily single, happier than when in a bad relatiinship. Many singles have always been happily single. So I disagree. We may be a slightly unusual collective , but we are a generally happy bunch. Esp on a Friday. " And forever in a happy clappy state of denial. Fridays good. Mondays always waitng.

Projection maybe?! Who knows but I do know it's all bull shit.

But duck it if this is a flash back it's seriously starting to get interesting :p" reality is only held together through subjective perception..when that assemblage point, yes there is such a thing in the energetic body gets dislodged, either by an experience so far out of the norm, or, it can be done willfully..reality shifts..im glad you are ok and that your new perception of the world continues to grow and change. op we are all gaining awareness, you made alot of assumption or was it projection in your opening post.. i dont buy in, not because im in denial..your points may be valid for some, but i wont shift my fluid version of reality to someone elses fixed _iewpoint, unless its to momentarily 'empath', before detaching again. self awareness and expression of such, is individualized, even in horoscopes you can find something that fits, if you are seeking.. i am not a seeker.. i am available for experience..but i pass, on your version of it...im trusting you get what you require out of this thread, the same as everyone else, on their journey in this moment x

I hope you find your way out of it " Why presume i'm atheist? I just said i realise there is no purpose to human beings. All of this now is my opinion. Same as there's no purpose to the universe, or anything else. Something holds this universe together, something evolves it and everything in it, and then it dies, and the memories of that thing are gone and it's like they never existed. You aren't superior or special for being human, nobody put you here for a reason or put animals here for the reason to be eaten or sacrificed by you. You exist because other things existed before you, and those things were pointless but they brought about your existence that is also pointless because your existence will end and it's highly unlikely you'll (or anyone else) bring anything into effect that makes anything else that exists better. We have advanced so many things, but each time it causes problems as well as solutions. I'm nowhere near depressed, until someone starts bringing sky daddy into conversations then i just wanna... If Gods exist they would judge without us knowing, they wouldn't offer rewards for being a good person they would just let us be who we are and know that we wanted to be who we are wihtout incentive. As far as i'm concerned we just 'be'. I'm happy with that, i'm happy nobody has given me a plan to stick to and i have freedom of mind to do as i choose and not feel guilty for any of my actions.

"A wake up call then. This thread won't run. It's way uncomfortable to face the truth. The thread will also be shifted or closed. We are deluded. Nothing good comes from our cheap liaisons. Simply a boat full of idiots. Those who know this will squirm in recognition. Those who don't will continue to answer the deadened , dread beat of the loveless. How can you be sure that is the truth, and not just your opinion?" . Quite so Mr Nordy, quite so.

"Why presume i'm atheist? I can spot atheism's logic a mile off, that's why I made that call... whether you're an atheist or not it seems like you've come under the spell of some of their thinking. For example, there is the assumption that nature is not divine... that instead it is valueless. This is a metaphysical claim that cannot be backed up and yet which degrades all of life and has caused such havoc that Environmentalism has had to come along as say "hey guys... we've got to factor in the value of nature somehow". You're also clearly convinced that the soul/mind doesn't exist and does not continue after death. But where is the proof of this? Again, it is unscientific conjecture that has won you over by cloaking itself in scientific jargon. In your last paragraph you point out delusional thinking about what a god would or wouldn't do... and this is quite right. But it isn't an argument against the existence of a god. Perhaps a god does exist and it is a very hands off loving god that simply enjoys being alive and we're very much a part of that. Just because Christianity is a load of bunk... it doesn't mean Theism is wrong and Atheism is right. It's just such an extreme reaction to veer from believing some dude walked on water to believing there is utterly no meaning nor design to life.... isn't it likely that the truth may lie somewhere inbetween? The problem with Atheism is that it offers no alternative to how we all came into being. In any scientific field if there is a theory which can adequately account for something and no other theory can do as well, then that theory stands until it is bettered. Atheism has not yet managed to present a viable alternative to how everything came into existence. As a result it would seem that we need a god anyway to explain that event. As we've needed to create a god in order to make event A occur... we now have a god kicking around... and so a raft of other events are also easier to explain. Atheism's argument is a massive and complex argument that has built up over 2 centuries... but its wrong and its full of bad thinking cleverly disguised by opt-out clauses and hidden fallacies

Atheism offers no explanation of what created us. Theism offers an explanation. To argue that this explanation has faults, without being able to forward a convincing alternative isn't actually an argument at all... it's just a bit of a moan As for the suggestion that we are best off being atheists until further proof comes along... isn't that just an inversion of Pascal's wager? Why not stay theists until further proof comes along?

Goddists are just trying to fill the blanks in their understanding of the universe with an all encompassing truth for which there is no evidence other than circumstantial or anecdotal. To say you do not know something puts you in a far more powerfully position than to kid yourself thaT you have the answer.

For one there's dozens, is god a religious god or some other entity that we don't know about. Entering into ignositicm and the discussion of what God is and what the concept of a god is. Thiesm doesn't provide an answer it simply adds more questions. But atheism doesn't try to argue what started life that's an issue for various sciences. If in our explorations of space we find life does that mean the Abrahamic religions, which I'm guessing you belong to as you sound like you read the kjv, are all wrong az they only discus life below the heavens? As for your pascals wager posts I offer an equally flip end quip " I postulate we are all atheists I simply belive in one less god than you" Personally though I'm agnostic

I do not label myself and I don't appreciate others labelling my beliefs either. I believe what I see before me and if I see something I don't understand I either look into it or chalk it up to experience. I don't make up a magical sky wizard who loves everyone but hates gays. I always say that when I die, if I end up on an escalator and St.Peter is standing there tapping his biro on his reception desk sternly I will be happy to put my hands up and say "fair enough son" but in the feedback section of the entry form I would suggest that they made a little more effort in not appearing to be made up contrived bullshit whose sole purpose is to prevent people from thinking and acting freely and to control them through a set of arbitrary rules and threats of eternal pain and suffering. I may also suggest that St. Peter's boss has a word with his publisher because his supposed followers are really ignoring most of his book and only selecting the bits that suit their pre-conceived bigotry and moral ideals.

Those answers will only be found in philosophy and reasoning. Theism has the head start in that domain, although in future years Atheism may catch up. I am unaware of any questions which Theism leaves lying around. I believe it pretty much answers everything and that Atheism's only attempts at alternatives, such as quantum vacuum fluctuations etc, are the ones which open up more problems than they solve. I've read your quip about believing in one less god before. I am not atheist about anyone elses god. I recognise that they're talking about the same god as me. I am not dogmatic about what my god is or what it should be called. As far as I'm concerned its merely enough to argue that "it", whatever it is, exists You don't sound very agnostic.

Just because something cannot be answered does not mean you get to make an answer up off the top of your head. How can philosophy possibly know what happened before the big bang? It has no method of looking into the facts. It just comes up with some nice ideas which suit the person in question. Is it not funny that no religion or theistic principles have ever existed which did not suit the person who was proclaiming them? Scientific study finds as much delight in realising that it was wrong as in verifying hypotheses. Religion seeks to silence and threaten anyone who provides a credible alternative. I think you're mixing up the traditions of the Faiths, which I agree are highly flawed, with the philosophical assertion that a god exists. Even if no Faiths existed... this could still be posited as a philosophical solution to the question of existence. It just wouldn't be buried under all the crap that the Faiths have buried it under I'm gonna have to head off soon... its been fun though

" First up you are perpetuating a fallacy; atheism does not say what did or did not create the universe. Atheism is not a religuon. It is an absence of religion. So to dress it up as a rigid belief system is a fallacy many religious people perpetrate to try and weaken what is basically an admission that we don't have all the answers but based on what we can see, there is not a god. For things we do not know the answer to or have no evidence enough to put together s learned theory other than the theistic idea of making it all up and slaughtering anyone who made something else up we really ought to say "meh, we don't know yet but let's keep looking" Believe me, I know much about many religions and am simply using the fallacious blackmail and hypocrisy in the Christian handbook of made up answers to illustrate a point. The reason for that is that in essence the Tora, Q'ran and Bible peddle essentially the same belief with a few minor tweaks. Tweaks which have been responsible for millions of deaths over the years and as such i used that dogmatic paradigm as it will be most familiar to the lion's share of readers of this post. Science does not have all the answers. But it does have the ability to admit when it was wrong and to react to that and go and look elsewhere for more information. Religion has all the answers, unfortunately they have no base of evidence. They just help people to stop thinking too much and not to worry our pretty little heads about that sort of thing. Religion is not presented as a theory which can be looked into and verified or argued against. It is presented as an all or nothing dogma which does not allow people to think and appraise what they see before them. Anyone who says they have all the answers and we need not bother trying to challenge or research more is a dangerous person. We must always challenge what we think is true and when we learn that it may not be true we should work even harder to disprove our current thinking in the hope of learning something new.

Scientific study finds as much delight in realising that it was wrong as in verifying hypotheses. Religion seeks to silence and threaten anyone who provides a credible alternative. (Eternal damnation and laws against blasphemy for instance.) I think you're mixing up the traditions of the Faiths, which I agree are highly flawed, with the philosophical assertion that a god exists. Even if no Faiths existed... this could still be posited as a philosophical solution to the question of existence. It just wouldn't be buried under all the crap that the Faiths have buried it under I'm gonna have to head off soon... its been fun though " Fine. Provide evidence and we can start to research if a god exists. For 10s of thousands of years no one has been able to provide evidence more rigorous than "well I don't understand that so it musy have been god." Or "that guy with the angry look and pointy stick says I must believe what he tells me or he will put that stick in my spleen." Have a good evening.

"I can spot atheism's logic a mile off, that's why I made that call... whether you're an atheist or not it seems like you've come under the spell of some of their thinking. Atheism's argument is a massive and complex argument that has built up over 2 centuries... but its wrong and its full of bad thinking cleverly disguised by opt-out clauses and hidden fallacies " Firstly, i'll label myself based on my beliefs, for you. I'm agnostic (don't know if any Deities exist or not, i can't deny them but neither do i follow any or act like they exist, so i'm possibly more of an agnostic atheist). I also believe in evolution from bacteria and amino acids. I believe things come about because the conditions for that allow them to. I don't even know what the soul is. There is no proof or explanation of what one is anywhere. It is a label that means nothing. I know what the mind is, and my opinion here is that it functions until death. Then all that remains of you is other peoples memories of you, until their mind stops working too. I haven't given anything a value, in fact i did the exact opposite of that and said everything is pointless and without purpose. Also there are many religious scientists, as well as atheistic ones, and they work on a lot of things, who even agree at times on things...philosophy...is not about religion vs science, it's about working out things that we don't know for sure, using different types of logic that make sense. Anyone can be right so long as they make logical sense. You're basically arguing against my opinion using presumtions. This is pointless too.

I am a nurturer in every role I have in life, and so is he. When I came to fab four years ago, I did not know myself, and I took the journey on to find myself and be and do who and what wanted. "My argument against theism is that it has no basis in evidence. I do not label myself and I don't appreciate others labelling my beliefs either. I believe what I see before me and if I see something I don't understand I either look into it or chalk it up to experience. I don't make up a magical sky wizard who loves everyone but hates gays. Theism says a god created the universe... but science gives us no evidence of a god existing. Atheism says that nothing created the universe... but science gives us no evidence of nothing existing. They are both extraordinary claims that require some form of evidence to back them up. So we look to nature to see if there are any clues as to which is the most likely... so far god is winning Just explaining that there is no scientific basis for Atheism either I always say that when I die, if I end up on an escalator and St.Peter is standing there tapping his biro on his reception desk sternly I will be happy to put my hands up and say "fair enough son" but in the feedback section of the entry form I would suggest that they made a little more effort in not appearing to be made up contrived bullshit whose sole purpose is to prevent people from thinking and acting freely and to control them through a set of arbitrary rules and threats of eternal pain and suffering. I may also suggest that St. Peter's boss has a word with his publisher because his supposed followers are really ignoring most of his book and only selecting the bits that suit their pre-conceived bigotry and moral ideals. Another person who thinks Theism is necessarily Christian Are you not forgetting the Sikhs, Sufis, Hindus, Bahai's, Native American Indians, etc etc etc. Has it not occurred to you that Christianity might be wrong... and that a god might still exist... perhaps even a god who doesn't hate gays? First up you are perpetuating a fallacy; atheism does not say what did or did not create the universe. " Saved me a lot of effort xx

I am not perpetuating a fallacy. Atheism is not a religion... it is a philosophical argument. Agnosticism does not say what did or did not create the universe. Atheism adopts the more paradoxical stance of saying it also doesn't know... but it knows it wasn't a god lol As for the claim that Atheism holds no beliefs. This would mean that Atheism is unfalsifiable and hence unscientific. Based on what we can see... there is a god. You just see things as being valueless whilst I see them as being divine "We must always challenge what we think is true and when we learn that it may not be true we should work even harder to disprove our current thinking in the hope of learning something new." Agreed... that's why I'm challenging the dogmas and arguments of Atheism "Fine. Provide evidence and we can start to research if a god exists." Isn't that the wrong way round? I think your main mistake is in thinking that Theism = the Faiths... Theism is a philosophy, a form of religious philosophy. Religion is a subject, like History or Politics. Most of your grievences are aimed at the claims of particular human organisations i.e. the Faiths. Your grievances don't apply to the subject of religion or the philosophy of Theism. Don't worry... it's a common mistake I personally share Atheism's dislike of the Faiths. But I'm open minded enough to recognise that the rest of its philosophical argument against "any kind of god" existing is flawed. I don't belong to any Faith myself. I'm just prepared to follow logic wherever it leads... and that isn't Atheism

"I also believe in evolution from bacteria and amino acids. I believe things come about because the conditions for that allow them to." I think the problem is the origins of life and consciousness. If we cannot explain either through a materialist lens, if we cannot show how some lump of rock turned into a living cell, then we may well need a god... and if we need a god for that... well, as I said before, we may as well use it for a bunch of other things too "I don't even know what the soul is. There is no proof or explanation of what one is anywhere. It is a label that means nothing. I know what the mind is, and my opinion here is that it functions until death. Then all that remains of you is other peoples memories of you, until their mind stops working too." The soul and the mind are the same thing. They are the experiencing conscious feeling self. It is axiomatic that it exists, otherwise you wouldn't be reading this The question is whether it is generated by the body, and hence dies at death, or is instead received by the body, and hence continues in some form after death. Neuroscientists are currently at odds over this question so it's a very interesting area of development. My money's on the latter as the former has some major problems. "I haven't given anything a value, in fact i did the exact opposite of that and said everything is pointless and without purpose." This, as I've said elsewhere, is based upon an unfounded metaphysical claim. Who are you to know if everything is valueless and meaningless or not? Cheer up "Also there are many religious scientists, as well as atheistic ones, and they work on a lot of things, who even agree at times on things...philosophy...is not about religion vs science, it's about working out things that we don't know for sure, using different types of logic that make sense. "You're basically arguing against my opinion using presumtions. This is pointless too." Apologies... to be honest I'm not really arguing against your opinions... I'm just arguing against the usual atheist arguments that get trotted out. Apologies if they aren't yours Thanks for trying to clarify where you stand but I'm still a little unclear whether you are an agnostic or an atheist in my book (not that that probably matters much to you lol). On the one hand you seem happy to follow reason and science to wherever they lead... which is agnostic. However, by assuming nature has no value and that the soul and god don't exist... you are making some big claims. Theism does the same, as does Atheism... but not Agnosticism. Agnostics only base their opinions on what science tells them and, at this juncture, there literally is no scientific information to support any stance on these issues, thus the real default, the real neutral ground, is simply to refrain from arguing either way. Atheists claim it is neutral to assume they don't exist untl proven they do... but it isn't... just as it isn't neutral to assume you're gonna turn left at a T junction unless someone tells you to turn right. If you have been won over by the atheist argument that you should presume that reality is XYZ instead of ABC before we even have any data on it... then you're an atheist because you have an expectation of what you want future science to tell you. If you refuse to form an opinion on issues which no scientific data is yet available for, either believing in them or not believing in them, you are an agnostic. Anyway... that's how I see it

But I'm open minded enough to recognise that the rest of its philosophical argument against "any kind of god" existing is flawed. I don't belong to any Faith myself. I'm just prepared to follow logic wherever it leads... and that isn't Atheism " Nope that is untrue. Atheists say that they do not believe in a god. Hence the name. The reason they do not believe in one is because there is nothing there to make them believe. Any atheist if presented with a God before them. Would consider their position. Religious people do not do that. They blindly stick their fingers in their ears and shout "lalalalalalalalalalalalalala" loudly when people try to help them understand that all they are doing is filling in gaps in their understanding with the word God. God is the answer to everything we don't understand. That is a human construct and purely theoretical. It is therefore a nice escape to remind you that all is in order and all will be ok. But it has no basis in evidence or fact. Your point about my offer to search for evidence of God if given some is where we get to the nub of this. Science is not just people having random ideas and chasing blithely trying desperately to be proven right. A scientific theory has to have some evidence to support it prior to it being a theory. Very few discoveries were made by accident entirely, the method will be that some work throws up a result which people muse over for a while and based upon the data, learned minds will formulate ideas which may explain the anomaly. These are theories. This so far is not far from how God was invented. However the next bit is. A scientist will test and test and test their theory and if the evidence suggests they are wrong, they will say they are wrong and try to find an answer elsewhere. A religious person will ignore all the evidence suggesting they are wrong and continue apace believing what makes them feel good and right. Thus they are delusional and their judgement cannot be trusted as they have shown themselves to be wantonly lacking in the ability to admit failure.

For quite some time it has been presumed animals are not sentient but this is being proved now, so anything is indeed possible (including any Gods too i suppose). "The soul and the mind are the same thing. My money's on the latter as the former has some major problems." It's very likely that my consciousness right now is down to me being alive, although we could debate what life actually is because we don't really know and just presume a lot of things about it based on how it seems through our senses. I have no recollection of any consciousness before this body existed (or even from the first few years of it existing). I would like to question why i needed a human body to gain consciousness if i don't need a body for it to continue after this body stops functioning, although i do know that if i didn't have this body then the way i process my experiences would be very different, and my experiences would be very different too, so this could explain why i needed a body. But i'd still go back to the point where i think it is pointless for me to even exist. "This, as I've said elsewhere, is based upon an unfounded metaphysical claim. Who are you to know if everything is valueless and meaningless or not? Cheer up " It's not depressing to be realistic or logical. I don't care that i am here without a grand purpose, it doesn't bother me that i'm not a part of anyone elses plan - in fact i like not being a part of anything and just going with life, drifting around not knowing why i'm here. I don't even mind discussing pointless things, i find them interesting else i wouldn't bother discussing them. I can make my own purpose if i feel like it, or not. Deities are also metaphysical unfounded claims. " Completely agree. It's all about which one makes the most logical sense and best answers the most questions." Doesn't even have to be the one that makes MOST sense, it just has to make sense. And many things that make sense can contradict other things that make sense. "Apologies... to be honest I'm not really arguing against your opinions... I'm just arguing against the usual atheist arguments that get trotted out. Apologies if they aren't yours " Erm basically you're arguing against what i said. If it sides with atheist arguments then that probably how i'm biased. "Thanks for trying to clarify where you stand but I'm still a little unclear whether you are an agnostic or an atheist in my book (not that that probably matters much to you lol). Atheists claim it is neutral to assume they don't exist untl proven they do... but it isn't... just as it isn't neutral to assume you're gonna turn left at a T junction unless someone tells you to turn right." I'm both agnostic, in that i cannot prove no God exists, and atheist in that i choose not to believe in one. I'm also ignostic in that i don't even understand what a God is. Nothing has a value at all, in my opinion. I see hierarchy based on peoples opinion when really all things are equal. They are equally pointless, but all were necessary to create the pointless lives and existence we have right now. By pointless i mean that there is no purpose or function to a universe existing and none for all the things in it. I see no plan for anything that exists, it just is and nothing more than that. Many people will make up a plan, will assign uses to things, but nobody can say the way we run anything is definitely how things should be, nor how life should be because we don't actually know why it is or how it should be. We can see the effects of things we do and try and work out if it's right or wrong. I'm also a nihilist. "If you have been won over by the atheist argument that you should presume that reality is XYZ instead of ABC before we even have any data on it... then you're an atheist because you have an expectation of what you want future science to tell you. If you refuse to form an opinion on issues which no scientific data is yet available for, either believing in them or not believing in them, you are an agnostic. Anyway... that's how I see it " I don't need the future to tell me how to live now. If anything in the future changes my mind then then that is when i will change my mind. I've also seen no evidence for any God, but being ignostic i wouldn't know what evidence there is anyway, and based on man made religions and what they say well no i don't believe their evidence.

"The bible actually says man was made from mud, so bad example from you there (sorry had to mention that)" I hope you've got the gist by now that I'm not a Christian... far from it... in fact the main problem here is that Christianity is utterly flawed and Atheism is a response to that. So most of Atheism's argumkents about Christianity are valid... they're just not valid about Theism in general

"Nope that is untrue. Atheists say that they do not believe in a god. Hence the name. The reason they do not believe in one is because there is nothing there to make them believe. " Again you're wrong... see my post above. If you kept your mouth shut you would have only a belief or a lack of belief. The minute you open your mouth and articulate it to others you're making a philosophical argument that can be engaged with and refuted. "Your point about my offer to search for evidence of God if given some is where we get to the nub of this. Science is not just people having random ideas and chasing blithely trying desperately to be proven right. A scientific theory has to have some evidence to support it prior to it being a theory. " All scientists start with a hypothesis which they must conduct experimental tests to verify. The hypothesis becomes proven if it can successfully predict the results. You're doing your science backwords...another common atheist fallacy "God is the answer to everything we don't understand. That is a human construct and purely theoretical. It is therefore a nice escape to remind you that all is in order and all will be ok. But it has no basis in evidence or fact." A boy is left in a room with a cake. When you return the cake is gone. The theist says the boy ate it. The boy is tested and no evidence of cake is found. The agnostic says "who knows... and who cares?". The atheist insists it wasn't the boy. It is up to the atheist to come up with a viable alternative. If the boy didn't eat it... who did? The failure to present a credible alternative signbifies that the only theory on the table is Theism... either that or you just shrug your shoulders and say "dunno". That's the way I see it btw thx for debating guys... its been fun... but I'm gonna have to dash... we're going on holiday yippeee

"Just wanted to clarify that it is a fallcy to think that Theism is a belief. If Theism was merely a belief and Atheism was the lack of a belief neither would be able to articulate their _iews on the matter. A belief is simply a belief, whether unfounded or not. Instead, both Theism and Atheism are articulated arguments which hope to persuade people to believe in certain things. If they weren't they wouldn't be able to write books on them. You can see that? Right? I completely understand that Theism is based upon a series of metaphysical claims. But so too is Atheism. Their claims are both equally incredible... and both require proof. Otherwise the only alternative is Agnosticism." This is true IMO. The only negative response is agnosticism.

If you are happy to shrug your shoulders and say "who cares?" you are an agnostic. Atheism, for me, is the argument against a god, it is not the lack of a belief in a god. That's my belief, don't really care if He exists or not because he doesn't make sense anyway. I can only judge anything by my own standards, which i don't know if my standards are right or wrong - so it's pointless to judge anyone except to confirm to myself that i do or do not like their actions.

"Some singles have met and become couples here. Many couples are very happy together. Many singles are very happily single, happier than when in a bad relatiinship. Many singles have always been happily single. So I disagree. We may be a slightly unusual collective , but we are a generally happy bunch. Esp on a Friday. "Affectionate Bitch... if you get this could you please PM me as I can't PM you. I'd like to use something you've written and would like your permission. You seem like an intelligent and open minded person from this and other threads. I just want to swing a couple of questions by you and make sure you're happy with me quoting you. I'm away on holiday for a week so I won't be able to reply to you before then (going somewhere lovely and remote ) but please do leave me a mail so I can connect with you when I get back. Thanks " Done. I'm patient and in no rush for a reply.

"Oh, he left? Shame. I hope he gets the problem with his partner sorted out though. And maybe comes back less bitter, or at least not wanting to transfer his angst onto us." This. I didn't agree with much the op wrote, but the posts were always worth a read. I don't like to see anyone struggling with relationships. A belated "good luck" op.

"Nothing ever applies to everyone. Well said young lady , circumstances differ , there is a social.aspect to this as well . Each to their own and never judge any one " This particular OP judged everyone, as if we were all the same as him. More recent posts indicated his relationship wasn't going well though and he wasn't in a good place.
