It starts tomorrow but we got some live golf on bbc2 4pm today. Who do you think will win and are you going to watch it? Tiger woods is back and might have a chance. I recon it will be a close one this year and henrik stenson could be in the top

Are there any other golf fans who feel the same as me. I've grown up with Tigers domination of the game and regardless of your opinions of him as a man or his past off course antics, do you find it sad to see his golfing decline being played out on TV. He continually spouts about 'my game's in a good place, ball striking great and shape brilliant' etc then this morning goes and posts +4 for a front 9 which come tomorrow will have him missing the cut at a major event yet again.

No. Its the same for him as it is for any ageing sportsman/team.

Sport is a cycle and everyone deserves their chance to get to the top and stay there.

He's had his time and amazing to watch it was, thankfully he never seemed to turn up in Ryder Cup's.

At the close of play, he was only four shots behind the cut score so not impossible. I doubt he'd do it though given how bad he's playing. Today's tee-time and weather certainly won't help, if indeed not making it nigh on impossible.

As for his decline, why shouldn't the world and his dog see how bad he's become? He couldn't get enough attention and exposure when he was winning so why not see him now, ffs he's only 39, hardly past it on age grounds. Didn't Watson almost win The Open at 59 yrs of age?

What is sad is how the media still fawn over him and give him coverage, hence his many delusional "i can still win it" comments, rage at the expense of covering those golfers, young and veterans alike, who are playing the good golf.

Here's a thought, Watson and Langer et a still play well, just how good were they in their prime? Allegedly in an era lacking depth of field. lol, tell that to Nicklaus, Player, Ballesteros, Faldo, Norman and others etc. Top sportmanship, talent, class and charisma (mostly).

God I love the Old course! It's a stunning place to place golf, one of the few places that gives you butterflies as you peg up on first tee.

I agree Tigers demise is sad to watch, he may win again not sure it will be a major tho but what ever you think of him as a man ( not overly keen myself) he was one hell of a golfer and the others owe him for the high prize money they win he made a huge difference to the game globally.

On a happier note I have Zach at 80-1

Look on the bright side Cheetah, even at No. 241 in the world and dropping, you're still the best black golfer in the world.

Looks like pro golf, and technology, has left the Old Course behind, it's only remaining defence is the wind.

It's been there quite a while.

Some years back, a yank, maybe Calcavecchia actually took a wedge to one of his "putts" from such a green.

Interesting snippet came out of today's play.

There have been 26 rounds of 63 in a Major. Of those, only 5 went on to win that tournament.

It's a 500 year old course and its only defence is nature.

On that basis I found it very odd that nobody went out when nature got bad...

Tiger doesn't need a swing coach, he needs a head coach.

25 mph is pretty easy to play golf in.

They stopped playing when it got to 45-50mph and that speed is very tough... But they are meant to be the best in the world so crack on I say

Lol I think there's a bit more to it than aiming more left or right but yeah 25 is reasonably easy for them to play in!

What it does do is exaggerate bad shots, where as 45 can punish good shots, but I still think they should have played Saturday

That's right I gues 25 is an ok wind, yeah that's right so if you hit a bad shot to the right the 45 wind might take it to the fairway lol. That's right Saturday was the day to play on.

All those who said they should have played Saturday sorry but they shouldn't or couldn't. 45mph gusts make it unplayable because the ball won't stay on the green. The Open is a game of skill and yes luck plays a part but if you put up to 2 feet and when you get there it blows 8 feet away that is unplayable and they have no choice under rules to suspend play.

On a happier not I had a couple of quid on Zach at 80-1

The Old may not be the hardest track but it's the best imho the tee shot over hotel on 17 makes you twitch and it's a good job the first is 100 yards wide I was shaking stood there! Nowhere else does that
