Yup, thats right!!

My landline phone gave up on me a couple of weeks ago so I invested in that BT handset that has the caller protection thingy on.

It actually works!! Since i have had this new phone I have had no cold calls! Brilliant! I was getting 1-2 per day previously.

Silence is golden ha ha.

I know they are just doing a job but they must call here about 7 times a day. Now if there is a pause before they say anything I have already hung up. But this BT thingymebob sounds just perfect.. I will look into it.

I thought it may be a gimmick as their telephone preference service obviously doesn't work but I am really surprised, it does work.

I kept an ambulance chaser on the phone for 3/4 of an hour, whilst I explained to him that he was asking me to commit an act of fraud, in order that they could make money. He claimed he was "a robin hood character", acting on the behalf of the poor "Christmas is only round the corner". Priceless! Well he was offering 4grand, but you get my point.

Put some porn on in the background and tell them you're busy at a party, then shout out, "Oi you lot keep the noise down a bit", the bloke on the other end of the phone was in stitches, never bothered me again though, lol

I have them too and they are great. Since recommending then many family and friends have got them too. I believe if you only need two handsets the cheapest Argos at the moment at £49.99.

Number that you know you add to the phonebook on the handset. Then when those numbers call they just come straight through.

If its a number you don't know, the caller will be asked to say their name and the phone will ring and you have the choice to either accept the call or cancel.

Cold callers it seems don't want to say their name so the call won't be allowed through.

Thats Interesting about cold callers not wanting to leave recorded details about who they work for etc, because as before you could,nt get those details unless you worked for mf5 with a bug under the phone... These cold callers so up front with what they do But will not go the extra mile to leave details that speaks volumes.

Does it reject calls from withheld numbers too? I have a lot of hospital appointments and so get calls from the automated service confirming my appoints quite frequently. But it's a withheld/private number.

if we are talking about telephone preference service then all major providers offer this service. although it does not block all oversees calls. you can do the same with junk mail.

If you get an automated message.. which you shouldn't, as they are supposed to be outlawed, just press 9, it automatically deletes your name and number of their list.

Also happy to confirm that the BT8500 phone does actually work, does exactly what it says on the box.

Bought a refurbished unit with answer machine for just £24.99, best 25 quid I've spent in a while.
