Rarely.

They have to be some kind of total fucknugget/racist/homophobe to get blocked.

But yes. On occasion.

I've never blocked someone from the forum but often block people in my local feed if they have rude or aggressive status updates. I use the private notes function a lot.

It's this. If I see something which I intrinsically disagree with, I block because if they were to message me I probably wouldn't remember.

Forum blocks are so rare that I rember why I did it.

As for private notes? Too lazy and my memory (for now at least) is pretty good.

If I've blocked I don't want to look at their profile so the notes function would be a pointless waste of words.

No one would know they were blocked unless they looked and they wouldn't look if they weren't interested. Only the blocker knows they blocked someone. A bit pointless really as the blocked person wasn't looking at the blockee in the first place.

I block so that they can't ever contact me, whether they would is neither here nor there. And if they never look they will never know but at least it saves me having to work out whether it's worth it.

Only the ones that insist on sending me their replies by private message so that they can say something rude to me away from the forum.

I know I have been blocked by at least a handful of people because of my forum posts because they messaged first to tell me what an awful person I am. I guess they felt it was necessary to get the last word safe in the knowledge it could never be challenged on the forum.

We know we have been blocked by a few people on the forum .

We couldn't care less as those who have , clearly think we are arseholes or feel we have treated them as such. That bring the case , its for the best .

However I would say it's pretty pointless , as blocking doesn't stop one from seeing posts from the blocked person . We would never send a pm to someone as a result of a forum post , so perhaps it just makes the blocker feel a bit better about themselves by blocking .

Or just because they don't want to sleep with you. I've got you blocked I think because of that. I enjoy the posts you make, but just didn't want you coming up in my searches because you're not what I'm looking for.

I do know that I have been blocked in the past by a few randomers who I've never spoken to or engaged with in any way (when I have tried to have a sneaky browse at their profile and find I'm blocked) so I'm sure there are many out there that do consider me a fucknugget!

I mustn't name names but the poster in question remained defensive throughout most of the thread and just couldn't take valid criticism, labelling it as abuse...

"Do you block people based on their forum posts? I most definitely do!

Never... People fought and died for our right to be free and say what they want. I may not agree with what you or someone else has to say but they have the right to say it. And believe me I think there are some idiots on here just as there are in life but you don't need to converse with them if you don't agree with them. However they may just offer an insight you'd otherwise miss.

You can still read their forum posts though."

So what is the point in blocking them? If you don't want to read a private message just delete it.

I've blocked a lot of couples based on their attitudes in the forums.

I don't care how loved up you are, and how you would never cheat, I find the patronising, condescending attitude of some very off-putting.

This is a general observation, and not aimed at any particular couple.

Same here , although we haven't blocked anyone from the forums for that which they post .

The reasons for others blocking seem wide and varied , some more reasonable than others .

But as you say , perhaps we will never know - it's not really important anyway . Clearly the blocker wouldn't want to meet us anyway . And ultimately that's what the site is all about .

At least as couples we are able to share our feelings with our partners . There's nothing that can possibly compare to the warmth and depth that two people can experience together . Love is the drug to conquer all

"We know we have been blocked by a few people on the forum .

No hard feelings, just a way of filtering the site."

That's the reason I block people but I would not block a forumite on that basis as I respect the freedom to message and receive messages that may wish to be sent by pm

Bearing in mind the Taoists did not like to make judgments I'd suggest he may have been cryptically pointing out if humans can agree, whatever the perspective then the conflict disappears by default

The west suggest extreme Islamic ideals are evil

The extreme Islamic ideals suggest the west is evil

If either side stopped their opposition then the perceived evil would disappear

Or it could indeed be a precursor to the christian doctrine turn the other cheek

Not sure it's relevance to my post ?

I don't see it as throwing a hissy fit or being scared of others' _iews; the block button isn't a weapon for me - if I know I'm never going to be interested in interacting with someone in any form it's easier to just block so they never come up in my searches or whatever.

Does blocking mean people are scared by other people's _iews? For me it often means I'm repulsed by them but not very frequently scared although some aggressively misogynistic, racist or homophobic _iews make me afraid for the people they come in contact with in real life.
